I used to get cheaper ones & they don't hold. The last ones I get from Ann Summer were actually only around £12 each, but the outer loops are metal & they never give up on me!!

mine is a 6 strap metal and rubber clips one just will stay clipped

You're possibly not catching enough material in that clasp, easy to do if it's one of the back ones that you have to be a contortionist to reach.

Or that one may be damaged in some way

I only get the ones that have suspender attatched to them, like a all in one thing. Much easier and super comfy and zero fiddling required.
