Dropkick Murphys - Going Out In Style
It’s quite literally about a party to see you off… American though so excuse the lyrical references.
“You may bury me with an enemy in Mount Calvary
You can stack me on a pyre and soak me down with whiskey
Roast me to a blackened crisp and throw me in a pile
I could really give a shit - I'm going out in style
You can take my urn to Fenway spread my ashes all about
Or you can bring me down to Wolly Beach
And dump the sucker out
Burn me to a rotten crisp and toast me for a while
I could really give a shit, I'm going out in style”

Carried out to Dakota by Stereophonics
I want people to sing along and dance."
There's a great funeral Mr brightside sing along on utube...

Pencil full of Lead by Paolo Nuttini……sums up all you really need from life, and if you’ve had those, you can leave contented, and hopefully remembered fondly by the people you loved |

I don't want a funeral... My partner was carried in to the Imperial March from Star Wars, Dimmu Borgir's, Fear and Wonder, in the Middle and we left while Pink Floyd's, Wish You Were Here, played |

"Don’t care, I won’t be listening to it."
What you choose could have a profound effect on people mourning you.
I'm going to have obscure songs that won't come on the radio unexpectedly or play in shops.

I'd suggest that people decide what they want at their funeral and let people know.
It would save the discussion and heartache amongst nearest and dearest as to what they think you might want. |

The Greatest Show On Earth - Nightwish.
I'd have it played as they lower my coffin into the ground so they all have to stand there and listen to a 20 minute symphonic metal opus about the life of planet earth.
I hope it rains on them too! |

It's not a song, but I would choose Ashokan Farewell by violinist Jay Ungar. It's very simple but it's one of the most beautiful and moving pieces of music I've ever heard. Luke

"Not a song, but I want Richard Dawkins 'we are the lucky ones' speech played at mine"
He says that speech during The Greatest Show On Earth. It fits the song perfectly. He sat in with them at a few shows and read it live too. |

I'd like the whole of Automatic for the People by REM played but, as a single song, I'd probably go for Waterloo Sunset by the Kinks or Itchycoo Park by the New Faces.
Or maybe Des Lynam reading If over the closing credits of the BBC's France '98 World Cup coverage. |

Paul Young & Clannad, Both Sides Now
Bee Gees, Ellan Vannin (for obvious reasons being Manx)
Pet Shop Boys, Being Boring. For the lyric "I never dreamt that I would get to be, the creature that I always meant to be".
I love the adventure I'm on & what being a little bit brave can bring you. X |
