I have no idea why, but I don’t find Female Standup funny.
However ad lib, such as QI, Who’s Line or Have I Got News then Ladies are just as funny as Guys, Jo Brand particularly and I like Aisling Bea as well. |

Yes they are, although they don’t often get the chance to demonstrate it on TV as much as men.
A woman who can make me laugh is onto a winner, most of the women I admire on here have made me LOLZ at some point |

"Stand up comedy is high on the cringe factor for me. I find it hard to watch, unless it's someone I know is funny. That can be a woman yes. "
This.
There's few people, of any sex, who can do it well I think. But there are so many women who crack me up!
Sharon Horgan, Aisling Bea, Miriam Margoyles, Jennifer Lawrence, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Julia Lewis-Dreyfus... |

"Are female Comedians funny and Hannah Gatsby does not count "
Female character playing comedians, beat the men hands down over the years!
I never watch stand up these days!
Joan Rivers was my fave back in the day! |

Why is this question being asked ?
It's often asked..... Are women funny...?
As if this is something beyond the reach of a woman - as if they HAVE to be compared with men - as if men are the bench mark.
Some people have gifts of humour in many ways..... some are stand up comedians.
Gender is only relevant as your diet has been so restricted.
Put away the chips and savour the dauphinoise.
It's all spuds. |

"Can’t think of one stand up woman comedian I think is funny to be honest.
Me neither.
"
Me neither.
I can think of a great many.
If you two are playing devil's advocate fine..
If you are not then shame on all those that the women who appear in and on my comedy shows and on the comedy circuit remain invisible. ( may your genitals shrivel ) |

"Katherine Ryan could laugh me into bed no problem
Yes she is an exception
I cannot stand her, but I like lots of other female comedians.
She's Canadian. Probably why "
No. For me it's mainly her pretentiousness......... I liked her earlier work. |

I don’t find many stand up men funny either to be fair. But there are more men than women that come to mind. |

Is that because There are far more male stand up comedians that are given the spotlight.

I find her really irritating on panel shows, but I did quite like her sitcom |

I don't watch much tv but it doesn't sound like something I'd enjoy. I was joking about her being Canadian. |

I'll just stand here and applaud all the funny women that write the sketch shows that are on t.v. , the funny jokes that male stands up tell but your everyday sexism wouldn't let you doubt his shining wit.... the film scripts , newspaper columns and the everyday banter in pubs , bars, train stations .....
A funny person is a funny person ... |

Exactly. But why does sexism have to be brought up just because some think male stand ups are funnier than most women stand ups. This is what annoys me about this place. I answered a question how I saw it and that word has to be brought up. Why? |

I've yet to find one that "I" find funny but I don't find women that funny on the whole.
I find Frankie Boyle and Jimmy Carr funny so I'm not the best judge in humour ;-p |

I didn't quote you Nora. The comment isn't aimed at any individual or their opinions.
I used the words everyday sexism as that's what I see.
Not because someone doesn't find a certain woman funny .... but for the idea that a whole gender are unfunny. |

"I don't think Russell Howard is funny, does that mean I'm guilty of misandry. "
No. That's just not finding Russell Howard funny.
Now say ALL men are not funny.. No men are funny ...... Men can't be funny ?
Can men be funny ? I don't know any funny men ?
Men can't be funny can they ?
Bit different.

No. It means you are thinking of totally erroneous counter points.. which have no bearing.

Joan Rivers
Julia Louis Dreyfus
Michelle Wolfe
Maeve Higgins
Sarah Silverman
Tina Fey
Ah there's loads.
Don't judge female comedians by panel shows. Almost no comedian, regardless of gender, is funny on panel shows
And of course, their are lots of hilarious ladies on the fab forums |

Yes. This ^^
If someone hasn't found any funny women, some of that may be because women don't get as much exposure in comedy. But to say no woman can be funny - that's sexism. |

"Sarah Millican best for me saw her live and very good
The female chubby brown... "let me tell you jokes about my cunt for 2 hours" "
I’ve seen her live and not at any point did she come out with the incredibly basic, demeaning and misogynistic crap that Chubby Brown and his ilk come out with. |

Agreed but i'd never pay to see her....... fact I wouldn't go to see her for free.
Main reason is my neighbours / friends /people in the pub are far funnier.
She's a success I don't understand. |

No, its strange we were discussing this last night as one of the lads went to see Sarah Millican... shes terrible although i suppose humour is subjective.
Im not really a fan of any standups i find them very tiring be it male or female.
However rebel williams is a absolute gem! Id see her if she came to the uk. |

"Are female Comedians funny and Hannah Gatsby does not count
Like all comedians... some are and some aren't.
I like Sarah Millican.
And Victoria Wood was possibly the funniest woman ever."
I can watch some of her sketches over and over. She wrote a series of monologues for Patricia Routledge that are hilarious. Not in a laugh out loud way but in a quietly funny way that just makes you feel happy. "I once walked the Penine Way in slingbacks" is an approximate quote that makes me smile to this day. She could catch the qualities of a character and make them funny but you needed to work for it by observing and listening |

I wonder if there is a certain woman type that appeals to males in general...... I so want to like Rebel Wilson but I find it difficult. Is she funny or pathetic .... She's not for me really. |

It seems to me that the consensus has always been that if a male stand up isn't funny it's because he's not a great comedian, but if a female stand up isn't funny it's because she's a woman and women aren't funny.
Hard for me not to conclude that it's misogyny that draws these conclusions. Happy to be persuaded otherwise.

They've got such a dry sense of humour.
Sindhu Vee as well
Sindhu Vee almost has it all for me ..... "
I follow her on Instagram and she kept going off on these riffs about mango that were quite loopy. I just like her. She was a banker before! |

This is how I see it too.
How can someone not be funny purely based on their gender?
I don't fund many stand up comedians funny, regardless of their sex. |
