I have no idea why, but I don’t find Female Standup funny.

However ad lib, such as QI, Who’s Line or Have I Got News then Ladies are just as funny as Guys, Jo Brand particularly and I like Aisling Bea as well.

Yes they are, although they don’t often get the chance to demonstrate it on TV as much as men.

There's few people, of any sex, who can do it well I think. But there are so many women who crack me up!

Sharon Horgan, Aisling Bea, Miriam Margoyles, Jennifer Lawrence, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Julia Lewis-Dreyfus...

Why is this question being asked ?

It's often asked..... Are women funny...?

As if this is something beyond the reach of a woman - as if they HAVE to be compared with men - as if men are the bench mark.

Some people have gifts of humour in many ways..... some are stand up comedians.

Gender is only relevant as your diet has been so restricted.

Put away the chips and savour the dauphinoise.

It's all spuds.

Yes. This ^^

If someone hasn't found any funny women, some of that may be because women don't get as much exposure in comedy. But to say no woman can be funny - that's sexism.

Im not really a fan of any standups i find them very tiring be it male or female.

I can watch some of her sketches over and over. She wrote a series of monologues for Patricia Routledge that are hilarious. Not in a laugh out loud way but in a quietly funny way that just makes you feel happy. "I once walked the Penine Way in slingbacks" is an approximate quote that makes me smile to this day. She could catch the qualities of a character and make them funny but you needed to work for it by observing and listening

It seems to me that the consensus has always been that if a male stand up isn't funny it's because he's not a great comedian, but if a female stand up isn't funny it's because she's a woman and women aren't funny.

Hard for me not to conclude that it's misogyny that draws these conclusions. Happy to be persuaded otherwise.

Sindhu Vee as well

Sindhu Vee almost has it all for me ..... "

I follow her on Instagram and she kept going off on these riffs about mango that were quite loopy. I just like her. She was a banker before!

Herne Bay

I think Sindhu Vee is hilarious, and Mae Martin. I'm not massively into watching comedians but definitely love these two

Gosport

I absolutely adore Nina Conti's stuff where she gets audience members wearing her masks.

"It seems to me that the consensus has always been that if a male stand up isn't funny it's because he's not a great comedian, but if a female stand up isn't funny it's because she's a woman and women aren't funny.

Hard for me not to conclude that it's misogyny that draws these conclusions. Happy to be persuaded otherwise.

"

This is how I see it too.

How can someone not be funny purely based on their gender?

I don't fund many stand up comedians funny, regardless of their sex.
