3 rings when you get home!!

This used to confuse me, was the 3 rings based on the phone Dur-dur 3 times or was it Dur-dur 3 times with the pause between the 3rd and nearly the 4th???!!!!!

These with mobiles and messaging no one does this now. Pre mobile it was a very common thing to do when you visited family members. It gave them the reassurra ce your home.
