Peeps, How do YOU resist temptation

Okay guys, early morning thread but I feel like I’ve woken up and I’ve been possessed by a DEMON already. Let me try to explain,
So I’ve been to Tiffany yesterday in Covent Garden cos why not right, I’ve tried some rings pretending I’m a rich bitch (I wish), gold, diamonds you name it.
ANYWAY, I’ve had this thought in the back of my mind that I really wanted to get a new ring (like I’ve got 8 how many more does a girl need??) or a bracelet so why not go to the best places right?
I’ve got her card with her deets (she was super nice!) after trying out half the store and now I’m really fucking tempted to say the least and I’ve been all morning checking out websites!!
But I know I shouldn’t and I was/am playing a very dangerous GAME.
My question to you is. How do you fucking resist temptation? Whether it’s a splurge (the consumerism demon is real, guys!!), or a sexscapade that you know you shouldn’t do but are way too tempted… or even eating half the chocolate cake (the one in the film Matilda!) during your 2 week fast cos you can’t handle life anymore.
SEND HELP!!

For stuff like this, it’s easy, I’ve got bigger goals in mind (property) than something I don’t need like cloths or shoes or jewellery. And trust me, the temptation is there because my entire wardrobe needs throwing out and replacing. It’s bad. But ultimately no ones gonna get me that property except me. So it’s easy to resist.
But I’m fall prey to other things, like cereal or pizza.
For that my tactic is to make sure things that replace it are easy to get. I meal prep. I keep a good stocked fridge of healthy snacks and meals. I basically make it so easy to pick the right option that there’s no room for messing up
Resisting temptation is about finding what works for you. Temptation normally comes from a place of instant gratification, which rarely helps you in the long run. |

My Materialistic temptations are easily nailed very early on by my financial situation, other temptations are nailed with a fast forward to the potential outcome ..like would l fuck a married woman ...no...why ? the potential fall out carnage that might follow just simply isn't worth it that l might be the reason a marriage ended and everything that goes with that happening...so temptations are easily nailed with a little real thinking . |

Yeah you are right, I think it’s probably the kick you get when going to pick what you want and then when you pay for it and the next day probably it’s already gone… and I’d still love the ring but then that sense of want/gratification is vanished.
Omg I just need to breathe in and breathe out for now

With regards to chocolate temptations my size makes it obvious I am unable to resist
Shopping - I tend to weigh out the pros and cons for that long that I talk myself out of it this comes from previously not having the money to splurge so now that I do I still tend to be cautious |

The obsessive phase and I are old familiar friends ... or should that be enemies?!
Ok, so what if you were to satisfy yourself in the meantime with a fake (try Depop), and if you find yourself loving it, build up to the real deal. You could even sell back the fake.
Genius! |

This doesn’t help!!! I’m supposed to save up so I can but I shouldn’t "
Then you can't afford it after all. You need the money for something else.
Sell the other 8 rings and buy a nicer one? |

The thing with fake is that I know in the back of my mind it isn’t genuine, so I’d hate it
Like the good thing about designer stuff apart from quality, it’s the fact that it comes with a name that you can wear with “pride”
If you know in the back of your head it’s a fake, then that defeats all that..
(I worked in the fashion industry so that’s the ultimate sin ) |

If you like the ring, have enough money for the ring and it'll make you happy - buy it!
We did that recently, went out to look at an eternity ring for me and a watch for him. 10 minutes later the money was fluttering out our bank
I'm on the look out for an anklet now, might have to ask the big man in the North Pole. |

Maybe I’ll look into second hand if it’s a decent price.

Where do you find nice anklets? I’ve got two but they are just crappy ones but they work nicely but I’d like something nicer (potentially)
Does Cartier make anklets?

If cake is involved then I don’t resist at all, ever, I can hear Matilda shouting “come on Bruce, you can do it” then I must obey, can’t let the little lady down hehe! But with other things I’m better at resisting! What’s the chances of your ring going into sale over the next few weeks? Black Friday, Christmas sale, new yr sale etc! Yes I’m a tight arse haha! Could you hold out and save some money? And by then potentially the urge may have passed, in which case you didn’t really need it in your life Miss pc |

"Temptation" and not abeing able to "resist" it is a fundametally weakness that sadly millions have.
Ask yourself this: Why did X that went to the same school as you, lived in the same tower blaock as you when you was sub 18 now got 4 properties and drives around in a BMW x7 paid for by cash. Answer, becuse they were not weak minded and spent moeny on things they could not afford or justify at the time.
The above may seem harsh but it is reality in millions of cases. IMO, if you have your health in the UK and aged 30+, no reason why you should not own your own property, own car, money in the bank and not live from hand to mouth,

If its something you desire go for it. My way when I got the new motor was to save save save. Im not even a car person but its what I wanted and it will last me out. I also had a more powerful reason to buy. Makes it really worth it when you reach the goal. |

Who says that I don’t own my own property
I’ve been fortunate on that sense.. I won’t go into deets
I see your point on saying that usually the ones affected by consumerism and temptations for things we essentially don’t need, are worst off in the end
Unless they are mega minted to begin with so it doesn’t really matter |

Mrs G you only have 10 fingers so you can only have 2 more rings.
Young Jack will be getting you a wedding and engagement ring so that's all fingers filled.

Stacks .. that’s the secret I’ve got 3 on my fourth fingers (both) one on my middle finger (right) and one on my thumb (left)
So I’ve got plenty of space for more
Jack needs to go buy them now |

I always think " do the kids need something"? If they do, then thats an instant NO for a treat for me.
I've been on the look out to repeat buy my new fav top. Must insert here, I wear things till they fall off my body, thread bare and not good enough to make rags out of. Been mulling over buying it for around 6 weeks. Walked into Newlook yesterday, it had 25 percent off. It came home with me for £13. |

Been saving for a quality dress watch since before lockdown started.
Managed to hit target few weeks ago, and went online to make purchase.
Looked at the cost, thought fuck that, bought a cheap one instead.
Sent the rest of my hard-earned to a local charity.
Couple of days ago got e-mail from charity saying how money was used & how much it had helped the people they support.
My £100 watch means more to me than any top-end trinket ever could.
Just a thought. |

"I don't put myself in the face of it to begin with. I have poor will power but I am good at avoiding tempting situations to begin with. "
I'm very similar. I used to buy a lot of jewellery at auction, but I've avoided the auctions and not looked at the catalogues and my level of want has fallen considerably. I still get emails from auction houses but it's easier to delete them unread.
Take a bit of time out, let the immediate "WANT IT!" feeling pass, then in a few weeks if you still really want it and you can afford it, have at it! |
