So its been just over 24 hours since my first tattoo. Ive got the aftercare instructions but not sure when its safe to remove my cling film cover for good. Today there was only a little plasma after a 5 hour wrap was taken off. Could somebody please advise? Xxx |

"I take mine off once I get home. Wash it, then just keep it well moisturised. Don't cover it again."
So ive got palmers cocoa butter. Should not wrap up tonight then? |

Do not wrap it back up.
It needs air to heal properly, keeping it in clingfilm will increase the likelihood of infection. You need to keep it clean and mousurised.
I prefer bepanthen for aftercare myself but everyone has a preference.
Didn't the tattooist give you any aftercare advice? |

"Don't keep cling film on. Use hemeroid cream. And don't pick when it itches"
Definitely haemorrhoid cream as it eases itching but I give it air and treat like a normal scab (moisturise when dry).
Another hint with older tattoos is to exfoliate them and moisturise as it makes them pop out and look new again. |

So last night I unwrapped it, washed it and then pat dry with kitchen towel with air dry too. Then put a wrap on while i slept. In the morning i repeated the process ive washed it twice today. |

No more washing, it needs to dry so the pigments of ink set.
The rest comes out with scab, moisturise when it starts feeling tight or every other night |

My tattooist uses second skin, it’s a sterile dressing that is also used on burn victims
It’s put on straight after they finish tattoo and clean you tattoo down, it’s then applied as a dressing. Stays on for 2-4 days the longer the better.
It keeps the tattoo area clean but also promotes healing
My bear tattoo on my thigh (it’s on a couple of my public pics) had one on for 4 days. I then used brown then cream and Palmer’s cocoa butter fir another 3 days and it was completely healed.
Google second skin |

Whatever you do, don't do what I did after I had my second tattoo done and embark on a d*unken romp.
A few hours after I'd had it done, I ended up in bed with an ex-colleague. In the throes of passion the cling film came off. Woke up in the morning to find an imprint of my tattoo on the bedsheets. Luckily the tattoo itself was pretty much unscathed. |

Don’t use bepanthen anymore, they changed the formula and it’s not good for tattoos anymore or so my artist tells me. I use tattoogoo you can buy it online or some shops sell it. Alternatively I will just use a bit of Vaseline if it’s just a small tattoo. |

"I was told not to use bepanthen as the formula has changed. Last tattoo I got I used a tattoo butter to moisturise it. Smelled lovely."
That's good to know...did they say why it's not suitable now?
No doubt I'll have more tattoos and I threw out my tube of bepanthen as it was rather out of date |

You shouldn't use vaseline on tattoos as it seals them off from aircand hinders healing...I believe. |

I'm not sure to be honest but this little pot of stuff only cost me £7 and as I spent nearly £400 on the ink I figured what's another £7 |

I took my wrap off as soon as I got home for both as that’s what was advised from the tattooist! Coconut oil worked great for me! Resist the temptation to pick!!! I hope you’re happy with the work you had done Miss pc |

I’m covered in tattoos. Take the wrap off as soon as you get home, use cocoa butter and it should heal fine. On my last tattoo once it got dry and itchy I used aveeno baby lotion to keep it moisturised. That worked a treat |

There is really no more need for the wrap as others said. Let it air. Let it heal. Let us know how it went. |

+1 for tattoo goo, you can get it from amazon easy enough. use the stuff in the tin (rather than the tube) until the scabs have come off then keep it moisturised while the skin heals.
+1million for not wrapping it! For God's sake stop clingfilmimg it! It'll make the tattoo weep and you'll end up with a faded, blurry tattoo. |

I know how you feel about wanting to keep the clingfilm on. I didn't want it getting stuck to anything or scratched by kids so I kept reapplying clingfilm for a couple of days. I'd change it multiple times a day though and using coconut oil (it smells disgusting though). I'd let it air when I could.
It goes without saying, wash your hands before touching your tattoo whilst it's healing! |

Mine uses this too, it's great. Had it for my last 7 tattoos. Leave it on for 4 days and the worst of the healing is over.
No scabs, no issues.
It's still peeling a bit and I already want another. |

My last 2 tattoos I was advised by my tattoo artist to use coco butter. My last one I put saniderm second skin on as soon as I got home and kept it on for 5 days. It’s was the best thing I’ve ever done on a tattoo. No scabbing what’s so ever and it protected it from my clothes |

It’s the way ahead there’s no weeping, no scabbing and a heated tattoo in no time. I still put cream
On anyway as I moisturise anyway |

I’ll buy my own for future tattoos as it’s not cheap and you can shower as often as you like knowing the tattoos protected. I’ve git 25 plus tattoos now and can say I’ve never had a tattoo heal so quickly ever |

Yeah I agree, I bought my own too. I was worried about that my big thigh tattoo would catch on clothing and pull scabs off I wish I had known about it after my arm tattoo |

Once you get in or after a hour wash with antibac soap like carex then use bepanthan during the healing process several times a day so it don't dry out I used to work as a piercer in a tattoo studio and have several myself |
