Men of Fab...and woman too if you know the answer.
Why don't you smile?...now obviously im generalising here, but this morning ive had multiple face pics sent to me by different guys, none of which were smiling.
Some looked half a sleep, others angry and one looked like he wanted to murder me!
Is it meant to be sexy? The not smiling look!

The lack of smiles here and on regular dating sites has always mused me. I think chaps think they look far sexier in a psychotic stare |

Men do like to smile. But we are not good at forced smiling. Of course, there are exceptions. But forget selfies. Even if you look at family photos, women are more smiling compared to men.
Fun fact - Do you know that smile is an expression that is hardest to fake? A real smile involves so many facial muscles most of which do not work when you are forcing it. So when I am forcing a smile, anyone can naturally figure out that it's a forced smile. |

"Sometimes you can look kinda goofy trying to force a smile for a photo "
Exactly. It looks particularly goofy for men. Women can get away with "that looks cute" even if the smile os goofy. But men will get roasted by their mates for the same thing. |

Smiling happens naturally for me, but when I take a picture it looks out on if I smile so I don’t smile in posed pictures.
If a random picture is taken there is a good chance I will be smiling |

OK I get the fake smiling is awkward thing... but staring emptily into the mid distance is also frickin awkward.
We have phones, take 5 take 10, move your face around until you're like, yeah look good on that
And remember, your mates aren't here to laugh at you us girls would just like you to look human please |

"I have a smiley pic! I have good teeth though.
If someone asked for a flat tummy pic, I’d be in trouble "
Me too!! But virtually everyone has the ability to smile, even if they're not keen on their smile. Id rather goofy than murderous |

"I absolutely hate taking selfies. I feel all self conscious and that makes it hard to have a natural smile.
I just stick to looking like a grumpy git. "
But you have cake, so all is forgiven. |

There is a very good book called the male brain. It explains why men smile less. (Hiding emotions makes you less vulnerable to others, and makes it easier to bluff when pretending to be tough to avoid fights)
Basically teenage boys learn to "act like men" and not smile. Stern faces are more "manly"
It's only 5 hours long on audible.
I learned a lot about myself from it and I would recommend it to everyone. |

I'm actually genuinely surprised how much resistance there is to smiling.
Virtually every woman on the thread has gone ooooh yes please. Virtually every guy moans about being unanswered.
Just saying... |

I feel very self conscious having my photo taken and generally hate them. Can't remember the last time I actually liked a photo with my face in it, and it's even worse when I'm smiling as in my opinion I look so goofy.
So smiling for a photo doesn't come naturally and I have to force it. This ends up looking fake and even worse.
Plus, if you look at male models and their photos on adverts or magazines they also never smile, they just smoulder, so it's what we have been brought up believing looks good. |

The odd thing is, I 'am' a little goofy and smile loads when I'm out with people. Just can't on a photo and being told someone wants me to actually makes it worse. |

My smile is terrifying. Small downward turning lips and weird teeth. I did my clown make up yesterday and painted on a smile and I thought "my life would have gone in a whole nuther direction if I just was born with a killer smile. |

Oh gosh, stop reading this thread then lol
But also not about weird model shots, just a candid friendly pic. Maybe it is less important on here, but on dating sites which ultimately completely lead on face you have no idea how many empty starey topless mirror selfies there are. It's intense, everyone please stop |

Yep, a pic caught by mates while you're doing something is always better than a selfie - for men and women.

Like most things in life guys, fake it till you make it. Force a big smile. The more you do it, the more you begin to accept, and eventually enjoy it.
I used to never smile. Now I find myself smiling all the time and you’d be surprised how often it gets complimented. Ladies notice it.
Just do it |

I totally get that.
But if you show me two photos of me, almost identical, but one smiling and one not I'm pretty certain I will always prefer the not smiling one. I'm assuming it's the same for most men.
I think as someone said above, it's ingrained into us at an early age that we shouldn't smile as it shows emotion and emotion is a weakness.
We know you want to see them, but it's really hard to post a photo that you feel uncomfortable with and truely dislike. |

Yeah I get you're never gonna upload a photo that doesn't make you feel good. But I think it feels like it's a "norm" worth challenging. People naturally warm more to those they can get a sense of, and that requires expression x |

I have resting smiley face. I send photos not smiling but somehow they still look smiley.
If I sent an actual smiling pic I'd probably look like the Joker and my podgy hamster cheeks would mean that my eyes would vanish. Not a good look for a photo so I don't take actual proper smiling ones. |
