Following on from the great films thread…

What films that you thought would be great, turned out to be terrible?

I’ve got a feeling that this is going to be a far busier thread!

Troy. How can you fuck up a film with a huge budget, a stellar cast, based on a story that's been popular for 3000 years? That's kind of impressive really.

Depends, I spent most the film laughing so I guess that's not what a horror is supposed to be. They kind of just turned it into a bloody gore fest not the suspense/fear film it usually is!

The Matrix sequels. The law of diminishing returns is very clear in these.

"Brokeback Mountain. What a pile of shite.

Maybe they should have used an enema before that scene? "

I just expected more from such a critiqued film. And the voices were so low, I had to turn the volume up to hear the dialogue and the pace was so slow. Really disappointed with the whole production of it.

Citizen Kane.

I'd heard so much about it, it's consistently voted #1 film of all time, rave reviews, blah blah blah...but..meh.

I didn't hate it as such and I finished it, but I felt very underwhelmed at the end. Artistically and stylistically, very well done, but overall ? Meh.

"The Matrix sequels. The law of diminishing returns is very clear in these.

I hoped for Matrix level intrigue and brilliance, instead got bad Hugo Weaving CGI and ridiculous plotting.

I’m not hoping for better with the cash in nostalgia driven fourth, clearly we’ve not learnt from Indiana Jones 4!

I think (and I know I am setting myself up for a fall here) the new movie will be good. Its just not possible for it to be as bad as the second or third.

With Gibson and cruise, in particular, I thought they were ok at the time, but then reached a tipping point after which I found them completely unwatchable, even going back to films I had enjoyed a few years earlier. Once you get it into your head that one of them is a complete dick, it’s hard to get past that.

Not terribly made just miserable and mean with zero payoff, from start to finish.
