Think yourself fat

How good are you at thinking yourself fat?

I've been thinking of late that I've been pounding it on

I was weighed at the GP's yesterday and it turns out I am exactly the same weight now as I was this time last year

I even asked if they'd changed the scales (they hadn't)

So, it looks like my 'weight gain' is in my head because, as is the norm for me when I'm drained emotionally, I don't look after myself food wise and then other, physical, insecurities creep in

So, and I know this is a tricky issue for many, how many of your body image & weight worries are driven by your emotional state as opposed to actualities?

Has anyone been in the mindset (long term) and what, if anything, has managed to get you out of that cycle?

Have you tried taking photos and comparing them to pics from last year? Before and After but actually still the same.

Also trying on clothes to see if they still fit often works better than a number on the scales.

Some clothes fit me grand, others fit but feel snug - that could just be down to my 'bung it all in and hope for the best' laundry skills though

Bit more rounded round the middle it is what it is more to squidge and squeeze

I've put on 8lbs since last year I hate it but it's hard to get rid. Now weather is getting colder I'm not sure it's going to change

I think it is sometimes easier to shift weight physically than it is mentally in many instances

If you have a lifetime of being on the heavy side (as I have) you tend to think of yourself as fat whatever your weight

That is a mentality I've always struggled to break

Weight doesn’t give an accurate indication to your overall look. Do you have a pair of jeans that you can wear now that you also wore last year?

I feel like I’ve put weight on well I know I’ve put weight on but I’m not as big as I was last year cos winter stuff I was wearing then is loose on the waist now.

Apparently I'm just over 2kg lighter (or was on Monday) than the last time I weighed myself. I don't feel 2kg lighter. I feel like a ginormous whale......

Didn’t stop her asking if I was going to “lose the tummy” before it’s “too late”

I had a similar experience to this today - I had been thinking that I had gained weight in the last month , and a skirt I wore last month fit but was tight so I tried it on thinking if it doesn’t fit I know I’ve gained weight - except it was to big!!!

My actual weight has changed but I’ve also changed shape! (I’m trying to build the dump truck )

So I am very guilty of this

I don’t think at, nearly, 52 and missing a womb that she’ll believe me.

Yeah but it might shock her so much it shuts her up.

After getting incredibly lean for competitions (sub 10%) I can definitely fall victim to this.

I’ll think I’m fat as shit, even though if I actually look properly I’ve still got a 4 pack and vascular legs

My mum thinks she's fat, it's worse when she's physically ill or when her mental health is poor. The difference between you and her is that she wouldn't accept the doctors scales were correct

See that's the thing, my older clothes still fit, but I started to wear looser / comfier clothes and now even though the older ones do fit, they feel restricted because I'm now used to loose fit

Therefore they make me feel fat and awkward

Isn't the mind a fucker at times?

"I’ve lost 8 stone and now a size 8 and still feel fat! "

Firstly, well done

Secondly, I totally get that

As I said up there somewhere, it is often easier to lose the weight physically than it is mentally

Dysmorphia is a constant cloud for many, me included
