Only because stuff stays hard or even when cooked the 'gravy' is still like water.

Let me know how you get on with yours.

I don't think they're great for veggie/vegan food.

I bloody love mine, i chucked a soup mix in mine (random veg chopped up tiny, bought from a farm shop) with two chicken stock cubes dissolved in hot water, garlic, celery, salt and pepper chucked in too with some boneless chicken thighs, stuck it on high for 3 hours, then I made loads of dumplings and chucked them in for the last hour and a half. Get some decent brown bread and proper butter to do some dipping. super hearty food for everyone.

Bean chillis and whatnot - very good in our slow cooker. You have to tailor the liquid amount used to take into account that it's being done in a slow cooker. You need far less liquid than you think.

We do veg chilli, veg curry, veg soups, dhal, all sorts in ours

Thanks KC, I have tried all those but still think the results are not as good as conventional cooking. I put them down as a convenience like microwaves.

Oooooohhhhhh gammon in is amazing too, huge hit in our house.

Quite often put a full chicken in too, line the bottom with onion and lemon chunks, stick your chicken in breasts downwards and add whatever herbs you like, garlic and rosemary are my all time faves. Don't even need to add water.

Get a bbq pulled pork sachet mix and a pork shoulder in there too. I just shred it, chuck it in a bowl and stick it in the middle of the table with wraps, cheese, chips, guac, salsa and salad, the kids love this one too.

Top tip - if you're using a recipe that isn't specifically for a slow cooker, use half the suggested liquid or else your sauce /gravy will be too thin..

You can always add more if too thick

There’s lots of recipes online, and can adapt them to the slow cooker if need be. Curry, beef curry especially is good, chilli, jacket potatoes, filling for lasagne or the bol for the spaghetti bolognese, stew, chicken casserole. I use my slow cooker a lot in autumn/winter it’s perfect for just whacking everything in before work in a morning

I do chicken dishes in mine, like chicken casserole or chassuer, use a Schwartz packet mix, and add some chopped tin tomatoes too, turn on and go out for the day!

slow cookers do a lovely casserole dish or curry really can turn a cheap cut of beef into a melt in your mouth delight.

Also got a ninja air fryer pressure cooker, i can highly recommend, same again does meat lovely and fast, a joint of silverside can be cooked in no time whereas if you did it in the oven it would need a long slow roast time, 20 mins in the pressure cooker then either finish in the ninja on air roast or do what i do and pop it in the oven for an hour. you can do the same with any meat dish.

Missin’ Yo’ Kissin’

I chop 2 spring onions up, add the mince beef, add parsley, add mint, 2 reduced salt oxo's, ground garlic, mixed italian herbs.

I mix it all together with a fok until it binds with the mince meat. Add water from kettles. Turn it up high for an hour then turn it down to low to simmer. I do it the night before & let it bubble away.

The next day when it's ready for a meal I add bisto onion gravy to thicken it up. I do mixed veg and garlic mashed potatoes. It's really nice!

For a sweet you could add peeled Nashi pears (Chinese)- ASDA do them. Add Rosé wine. Simmer in slow cooker with cinamon sticks, sugar, water. I suppose it's kinda poaching them... Then when tender serve with custars. Very nice!

Just got mine down from the top of cupboard and switched it to low.

Popped in some diced pork with crushed chillies and a little sugar, added some vegetable stock and will leave for a few hours, the may add dumplings or may just add some green beans and serve with rice

Not sure if mentioned already but slow cooker liners are amazing at cutting down on the time spent trying to get the nasty stuck-on bits out of the pot when cleaning

Usually i would dice up my chicken breasts and brown them in my wok b4 adding my Korma, SweetnSour or butterchicken sauce .

But i av to say slow cooking full chicken breasts in anyone off those sauces is amazing and if just cooked for the correct time the Chicken just splits into lovely pieces . So glad my lass got me 1

Yesterday I made a Lotus Biscoff and White Chocolate fudge in mine. Just sliced it up - delicious.

Last week I made a Nutella and Ferrero Rocher cheesecake in the slow cooker. That was great, too!

If you have a Poundland near, get some slow cooker liners (huge bags) as saves on washing up.

I love my slow cooker and cook all sorts in it. T has just bought us a ninja though so trying to get used to that

abruzzo Italy (and UK)

I use mine a lot for porridge when I know I’m in no rush for breakfast, just leave it there for a couple of hours and have it when I feel like it.

It’s also good for cooking cheaper cuts of meat to make it much more tender, and makes great Beef stews or lamb curries or tagines.

Wake up to the smell of a roast chicken...heaven

I do a gorgeous lamb pasta in mine.

Fry off the lamb mince (I use one pack, whether it's 500g or 750g, I'm not exact with measures!)

Drain as much oil off as possible, then tip into the slow cooker with 2 chopped onions, 1.5tsp dried mint, 2tsp dried oregano, 1tsp dried chilli flakes, a spoon or two of redcurrant jelly, a good 2tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 3 tins of chopped tomatoes, tins rinsed with 500ml of water.

Cook on low for a few hours, skim off any oil that surfaces from the mince.

25 minutes before you're ready to eat add 250g of dried small shape pasta (if you're using big pasta shapes you'll need to add a little bit earlier).

It's gorgeous and warming and freezes really well too if you portion it up while the pasta is al dente.
