Apparently, storing unwanted pictures on your phones and computers causes more pollution than the airline industry.

I drives me nuts that Mrs Sauceytwo will take a screen grab of webpages instead of bookmarking them and even screen grabs of pictures in WhatsApp instead of saving it to camera roll

on a more serious/related note: It’s a bit of a sensationalist take on the subject. Cloud storage uses a lot of electricity to keep running. It’s the same for any files. There is no distinction between image/media, websites, databases etc. (although the total sum of space used by “fire & forget” images is huge and still need to be accessible 24/7 despite never being accessed is huge and 100% needless.) it all pushes a butt-load of carbon in to the air.

It’s not all bad news though, the cloud storage sector are really pushing “net zero sustainability” more than most.

From now on I shall print out my photos before deleting them, and fly them to prospective partners with a "FAF?" post-it attached.
