Alec Baldwin has killed somebody
Jump to: Newest in thread
I've just seen this. He was using a prop gun on a film set. According to Sky News:
The woman who died has been named as Halyna Hutchins - a 42-year-old director of photography. A spokesman for Baldwin, who is producing and starring in the film Rust, said there was an accident involving the misfire of a prop gun with blanks.
---
How shocking. Life is so fragile. How terrible for friends and family. I can only imagine how Baldwin is feeling. |

Tragic. Unfortunately people die at work and I guess the film industry is no exception. When you look at some stunts you think wow that must have hurt. But for an actor to have pulled a trigger and bang, that’s incredible it ever happened. |

"You'd think after The Crow that his wouldn't happen again. Awful for her family and friends but arguably worse for Alec having killed her though no fault of his own
LvM"
Exactly. Who is not ‘quadruple-checking’ firearms on set to make sure there’s no stuck cartridges/jackets or debris that could cause exactly this incident?
One person dead, one injured and one feeling unbelievably guilty despite it not being his fault and now in a media spotlight. |

What’s always been crazy is Bruce Lee made a film game of death, where an actor gets accidentally killed by a real bullet when it should have been fake and that’s how Brandon Lee died. |

Poor guy must be feeling terrible like everyone else involved. I don't understand why a real gun with blanks is used . Can they not have a gun that can't fire real bullets be used for things like this |

around here |
I think I once saw an episode of Columbo where this happened. I think someone had swapped the bullets for real ones though. Maybe this has happened here.
Oh and just one more thing........ |

News can say it was a 'prop' but that was a real, functioning firearm. If he discharged it at a cinematographer and the director that implies he was playing around with it off camera and didn't occur during actual filming of a scene.
Anyone who has done firearm training will know:
- Assume all firearms are loaded.
-Never point the gun at any person you don’t intend to kill.
-Keep your finger off the trigger until the moment you have made the decision to fire.
-Know what’s behind your target, because bullets can travel a long distance and hit things you didn’t intend to hit.
Presumably he violated all these tenants. Even more striking this having occured with someone who has been very vocally anti-gun.
Stupid tragedy that was completely avoidable. |

He must be absolutely devastated the impact of this not only on the poor lady who lost her life’s family or the injured party but also Baldwin himself.. tragic accident. Would be interesting to know what the learnings were after this happened to Brandon Lee |

They would do that anyway. Other than speech, everything else is added after filming in Hollywood (and sometimes speech too).
What they want is the recoil of the gun and the flash coming out of the barrel. I'm not sure they can get that without the possibility of something being ejected out of the same hole as the flash. |

Not necessarily. They could have been filming a scene where he was aiming the gun down the lens. The director and cinematographer would have been behind the camera so in the path of the gun. |

Using real firearms it's usually done with blanks, but there are still safety considerations as debris still comes out of the muzzle. This sounds like a live round though, someone fucked up. There should never be live ammunition on a film/stage set. |

Currently, the full facts of the incident haven’t been made public. So we don’t know if this happened during filming or an off screen demonstration or fooling around.
Lessons were learned after Brandon Lee and as incidents like this one are rare hopefully more safety checks will be implemented further.
RIP Halyna Hutchins and I hope Joel Souza makes a speedy recovery. |

In the Brendon Lee case it was found that the gun had been used to fire live ammunition and a bullet had misfired and was lodged in the barrel, It was then used to fire blanks but nobody had checked that the the barrel was clear, when the gun was next fired with the blanks the lodged bullet was ejected from the barrel Killing Brendon. |

My thoughts too. DoP could have been operating the camera if it was a smaller movie. He doesn't seem to make bigger budget movies these days unless in smaller roles so corners may have been cut.
But let's wait till the details are released. Doubt he was messing around on set. |

Well it would appear now that this assumption was made a little too early.
Baldwin is now in trouble after all the details have since emerged.
I wonder how this is going to pan out now |

I would imagine a court case involving an involuntary manslaughter charge might be on the cards. |
