Why do you do your job?
Is it because you're interested in that sector? Salary the driving force? Hours and flexibility? Giving back to the community? |

Depends on which one
But on a serious note, though I'm not in employment as such, I do for a living (when I have clients) what I love.

Because I love helping people in my life. Gives me a sense of purpose.
I've always found a life is not worth living, if not to help others. Do good. Feel good. |

Because its secure, pays well per hour, good pension, generous holidays, under 40 hrs a week contracted, a cracking trade union, good terms and conditions and any overtime is yours to negotiate. Oddly enough it's a job people tend to stay dedicated to till retirement. |

Hours and flexibility and ease of it. I can go in switch my brain off, work, clock off and think not another thought about it till next morning. I love it. I will be in danger of staying there forever because it is so good. |

I do mine because I have bills to pay and mouths to feed. Lockdown 1 happened 3 weeks after I'd started a new job, no work, no furlough, I was screwed. Went to one of the few places that were hiring, and still there. Grateful to be earning, but bored shitless. |

I've always worked to pay bills and keep a roof over my family's heads. There has never been any other option. In saying that any job I've had I've given 100% throughout even when my employers didn't appreciate it.
I lost my job last year as a direct result of covid and started helping a friend maintain and then build his business.
Despite everything that was thrown at us over the last year we have increased turnover by 100 percent on 2019. Despite having to take a much smaller salary than I was on previously there is a great deal of satisfaction with knowing what has been achieved and stress levels are almost non existent. |

I do my job because I believe I am very good at it (lifestyle coordinator in a care home). I enjoy making the lives of my residents a nicer one in the last remaining years of their lives. The money isn't great but then I get more per hour than I ever had, I'm head of my department and I only do 6 hours per day. It does get hard and lonely sometimes as there is only myself and one other in my department and we don't always work together. On the whole I love my job.

Because it pays the bills, with a few sheckles over for t'ings such as holidays and car payments.
The last job, was slightly different in that, in terms of money, it just kept my head above water. But without a doubt, it was the most fun job, I've ever had...with respect to the colleagues I had the pleasure of working/winding them up....and they would equally give it back in spades. |

almost literally just 'ended up there', one job lead to a different job which led to a different job... Hours are great though and pay's OK, but is it 'me'? Probably not. |

I love my job, it makes a genuine difference to people's lives.
It's emotionally draining, it's mentally challenging, and it's an amazing start to make a difference.
The pays not bad either, despite being a charity
Helps that I'm bloody good at it too!

My job is my business. I do this because no 2 days are the same, I travel the whole country with some of the most famous people we all know. When the door closes they are just folk like you and me(except one Bitch) suited and booted every day. My god with the conversations I'm privy too I could write a book!
Oh I drive a fantastic vehicle every day also. |

My career kind of just happened. When my little boy went to Nursery I hated that he was away from me...so started to volunteer one afternoon a week just to help out washing their pots and paint stuff and preparing snacks.
After a month they offered to pay for me to become qualified. Then they offered me a paid job, did my level 3 and got promoted.
25 years, two degrees, leadership and management and working in various roles later...I am still working the industry.
Must of cared for literally thousands of children and many now have got children of their own and still remember me....I've trained people I used to care for as children and looked after children's children.
I remember learninh through play and then the implementation and evolution of the early years cirruculum, now Early Years Foundation Stage, always changing and always learning but the core values never change.
I love my job, which is weird because before I had children of my own I really couldn't stand the little buggers
And still say when asked who my favourites are "nobody, I dislike them all, some more than others" |

My sector is very very varied. By that I mean one minute you’re sorting out security standards, the next you’re fighting an absolute dumpster fire of a project that some project manager thought would be brilliant!
The salary is a bonus, and as there is a shortage of us, it’s shifted the terms of employment onto those of us looking to make moves. |

It is 9 to 5 Mon to Fri (quite unusual these days)
Reasonable salary
Good group of people
I get to use my mind but have little responsibility
I get to deal with new people every day
I laugh every day at work

No idea. Never really though about it before. I guess it's because it's what I know, and people pay me for it. If I didn't do this, I'd probably do something else instead. A bit like asking a fish why it swims in the sea. Because it does. |

Today I had to do a 30 second errand to pick up a radio. My new best friend wanted to come with me. He is 4 and has cerebral palsy. We both belly crawled around the hall into the office, taking 10 minutes to complete the task. When we returned we were asked where we had been. He replied "on an adventure" with the biggest smile on his face. His reaction is why I do my job. |
