She did not say you were trying to garner attention. It's a figure of speech that we are aware of you, not ignoring you.

It may come across as over conftind to someone looking in from the outside because that’s the way I want them to see it

It's like everything, some might feel they are just confident while others would look at it as arrogant..where some might think an arrogant guy is just confident..it all depends on who looks at it l suppose and makes their own call on it ... |

Only news article related stuff but my unit was part of a documentary in the late 90's. All old hat now. The point being that I could come across as confident, even arrogant speaking about all that but in normal life I'm considered reserved at best. |

I think true confidence is knowing yourself, knowing your limits, presenting the real you and being happy enough with it to show it to others unguarded
Bigging yourself up is not confidence in my eyes, infact it's often a cover for underlying insecurities |
