Because they're sooooo yummy!
However .... not a good idea to put them in next to the bread if you're using them as a packed lunch ... result yucky soggy bread.
Best recipe: Kitchen sink tomato sandwiches taken from 'white trash cooking'
Two slices white bread cut thick,
spread each slice real thick with helmans mayo.
Slice tomatoes 1/4 inch thick and layer over bread.
Grind salt over tomatoes, layer with more tomatoes, grind on more salt. Squash lid of sanwich on top. Cut in half, take in both hands and stand over kitchen sink as the juice runs down your elbows. LUSH! |

"People think its a good idea to put tomatoes in sandwiches?
If you are buying it ask for it without. Whats the beef dislike or soggy bread?"
I just don't like raw tomatoes, the soggy bread comes from that |

"Some of these replies aren't very imaginative, saying that they like them isn't going to win any debate"
Well its hard to get imaginative in an unimaginative thread, people that put tomatoes in bread do it because they like to,some people dont like to so don't do it,hardly a debate is it? |

It's ok as long as there made fresh to eat striaght away !
I know everyone will say keep the tomato sepperate then add it when your going to eat it , but by this stage the tomato has lost its will to live .....no the whole butty has to be eaten fresh ! |

well you could try buying sanwich tomatoes ... a special variety grown for thier low seed content and don't make the bread go soggy.
Or my fave sundried tomatoes, artichoke, mozzerella pine nuts and pesto on seeded bread mmmm mmmmm mmmm |
