Funny this is a topic. We were watching how it's made and the foil manufacturer q.c. people stated there isn't any difference at all which side faces up or out. One side isn't any better or worse than the other.

That's why there is two push in bits on the outside of the box at either end.
Once you push them in, it holds the roll still,so you will never have that issue again whilst tearing some off.  |
