I would imagine it's a royal pain in the ass to be honest.

I’m not saying I’m popular but I do have a presence because of work.

It is hard at times because people want to be associated with you but all they want to do is take and use that association for their own gain.

Nope, I was always more notorious than popular. Everyone knew me but few liked me. I like it that way.

People expect you to be life and soul of the party all the time. The one to get things going and make it good . And yet some times in a crowd you can feel like your the entertainment and somewhat lonely.

Well since I've been asked... I actually wasn't that popular at school, I was more studious! I suppose on here my photos are popular, but that's all. And whilst it's nice of course to receive compliments, it actually makes it hard to talk to anyone as my inbox is just impossible.

It carries its own baggage as others have said. Some thrive on it, others positively hate the attention.

At a fundamental level, it's a tool for socially-engineering other people, so it is used in a manipulative context. Typically for the betterment of the one doing the engineering. There has to be something to be obtained from the populism, be it adoration, status-enhancement, attention, validation, etc.

I prefer to fly-low under the radar and blend in. Disappear preferably.

. This. I’d rather some dislike me for who I really am then everyone like me for someone I pretend to be.

I wouldn’t know. I bimble along in my own little bubble, some like me, some don’t, can’t do much about it anyway

Speaking as someone who is not popular and never will be, but whose observational faculties are entirely intact, it seems to me that being popular is effectively playing life on easy mode. I envy it greatly.

I know both.

It's good being popular, just for the backup and feeling supported.
