I am scared of spiders and would absolutely freak if I knew any were in the house. Luckily I haven't noticed many up to now.
My friend scares me with her tails of her experienced whilst in Mauritius staying in the water cabins. She popped to the loo in the early hours and whilst midstream she noticed a large dark patch at the side of where she was sitting. She thought it was damp and so she reached up to the window and pulled on the cord to open the blind to let the light in.
And saw that the damp patch was a huge dinner plate size bird eating spider.
The story scares me every time and I always think of it when looking for holiday destinations.  |

I just paid £25 for one of those ultra sonic sound wave plug ins that is supposed to repel them through the electric cables. Had it 3 weeks and not seen a big one (yet). Horse chestnuts (conkers) by every door and window as a back up. Yep I hate them too. |

Here too, we have loads and they're mostly huge.
The cats love them. The little buggers found one in the early morning a week or two ago. It was almost the size of my hand with my fingers splayed. I was half asleep when it was chased right across my face (which really made me jump), closely followed by nearly 6kg of boy cat.
The spider then disappeared under a piece of furniture and boy cat tried to stuff himself under it to follow, even though he's much too big. As farces go it was excellent.
I had to get up and shift furniture until I found and caught the spider (it couldn't half move!) and put it outside. The flipping cats still kept me awake for another hour looking for it.

we have one the we Feed

nothing wrong with spiders....house is full of them, one lives under sofa and comes out for a chat most nights.

having another bad year for spiders round mine too...2 years ago when it was last bad, I can remember a weekend when I had been doing a lot of work in the garden so I had been going out the back door the whole time...the saturday night I was knackered so thought to hell with cooking, just going to order a pizza.When the delivery guy came to the door and I opened the front door, there had to have been 6 massive webs covering almost all of the opening, had to destroy them all to pay and get my supper...lol...the reaction of the delivery guy made me laugh.."LADY!! im terrified of em,got ahuge one in the lounge once,so i sucked it up the vac,then sucked some cat litter up the vac to knock it out,then i sellotaped the end of the vac so it couldnt get out if it was still alive,then waited three days for someone to come and empty the vac,now i just sic my house mate on em |

i know they cant hurt me,but i just cant even look at one cant explain it realy,im not scared of mice or rats or snakes,i love frogs and toads,i rescue the snails from the path every night so they dont get stood on,but i cant even be in a room if i know theres obe there,

There are only about 10-12 species of spider in the UK that are known to bite. I can't remember how many spider bites are reported annually but it's a very low number, maybe a couple of hundred. The worst effects are usually a painful area around the bite, some localised swelling and /or a rash. In the grand scheme of things, they're not terribly dangerous!

There seems to have been a lot of spiders in the garden this year....... which does mean a lot will be looking for somewhere warmer to spend the winter soon.
They don't bother me that much, but still this year I think I will get the spray out and put a few off coming into my house. |

I lived in Basingstoke as a child and I can still remember the huge spiders we used to get in the house. One menaced me on the stairs once, I had to be rescued by my dad (I was only 5!). I'll never forget 'The Basingstoke Spider'. We should have had a cat! |

I quite like spiders but, but just had to have serious words with my resident hallway one known as Big Boy Boris. The silly bugger has taken to running around of an evening just when I nip to the kitchen for a drink at night, nearly trod on him twice this week.  |

Years ago on the news, there was an indian lady taken into hospital as she had a huge lump on her head. When they opened it up, lots of mini spiders came out, a spider must of laid egss on her head |
