I hadn't even noticed until I saw this thread 
I guess I could just text people if I need to, but I'm enjoying that my boss can't send crap out on the WhatsApp group we have haha |

One of my contacts , only messages me on whatsapp. Had text from her tonight as she could not contact on whatsapp lol. Yes I know we had swopped numbers . But agreed not to text , phone each other until both happy to do so. Only use whatsapp messages. She did not know it was down lol. Panicked as thought blocked by me |

I believe that the whole of the FB based system is down, including their internal domains, probably relating to the whistle blower, and presumably taken down to stoop any further internal leaks coming out with FB email addresses and shutting down all their file servers |

Facebook have, likely not intentionally, withdrawn their BGP routing. So yes, according to the entire internet, it's gone as though it never existed to the world wide web.
Hearing that Employees can't get into the building and that they can't remote in because of it, or message each other as FB messenger is their corporate comms method.  |

Same, seen some really odd comments like "Cyber-Polygon". Bit too coincidental though just after the Whistleblower events, but we'll see what pans out afterwards.

Any conspiracy/cyber-polygon comments seem to come from people who aren't really clued up.
The guy that posted has been confirmed as a FB employee. Probably crapped himself as he's being sited as a source all over the place.
Yeah the timing is a bit sus... But they will have had some advance warning of the whistleblower (not much I grant you) and I think they'd have come up with something better in 21-24 hours than seeming incompetence on behalf of DevOps. But then. Who else to throw under the bus. |

Possibly! Job on the line with that if they find out who the user really is.

I've seen some pretty high theories, such as "Internal rebellion", "Disgruntled employee", "Misconfiguration", though likely it's just someone accidently misconfiguring a router & subsequent DNS somewhere. |

I'm betting an update of something else and someone somewhere has, at some point, included some line of code that resets settings to default if not explicitly specified. |
