Perplexed at all the Bath mentions. My wife is from Bath so I’ve been loads of times. Pretty in places but dull, dull, dull.

The new shopping developments are ugly and the shops themselves are the same in any city centre.

"Cant stand most cities, especially the capital.

I'm with you in general. I've lived in or near London since my student days but can't say I have ever really liked it. Did a few pubs, like 'The Prospect of Whitby' but never felt motivated to make a career of it.

Thankfully I grew up somewhere unique, maritime and idyllic and have always enjoyed the works of nature far in excess of those of mankind.

Where many in the thread are extolling the possibility of good nights out, I would far sooner have cosy nights in and good days out in the sunshine(at coast, riverbank or on hills/moorland/mountains).

I know it is going geographically off thread but the only cities I've enjoyed visiting were Vancouver and Auckland. Amsterdam was also tolerable and refreshingly different. Paris was a punishment and I have no desire to go anywhere near New York or Rio (I found Mumbai interesting, though).

In the UK, St Davids is about busy enough for me and in a great location. I quite liked Durham as well. Never been to Wells. Brighton tolerable except for the schizophrenic attitude to sex versus spa at Bristol Gardens!
