In his recent book The Shortest History of Britain the historian James Hawkes argues that the Norman Conquest was the real beginning of the unique English class system that's endured ever since. Not enough room to go into detail here but a fascinating theory. |

What about 1688? William of Orange invaded at Torbay with 15,000 men to depose James II. Of course he had friends at the English court, and James didn't put up a fight,
but it was still a (successful) invasion. |

Yes and Fishguard was invaded in 17 something.
1066 is generally accepted to be the last successful invasion but I'm happy to be told other wise |
