The reason there are 4 categories is cos the more fit one is the more calories one burn in the same amount of time, that is why one cant eat the same kind of calories to expect the same kind of result, which category do you come in? I come in the fit category. I do weights, lots of cardio about 10000 hrs a week, about on average of 120min aday.
Here are the 4 categories:
Unfit: Doesnt do much
Moderate active: 150min cardio a week
Fit: Out jogging biking doing it often, every day.
Superfit: Competitive marathon runners, more cardio than most.
The 4th category superfit are burning the most calories of them all |

No idea. I'm probably averagely for for a woman in her mid sixties. Although having said that compared to many of my peers I'm very fit but compared to Madonna I'm a slouch .
My weight is stable (as long as my thyroid medication is correct) so I guess I'm eating the correct amount. |

I stand / walk around 8-10 hours a day on the laptop and phone while doing house and garden work so get around 8-10k steps a day from that , run 10k once a week, do 3 short but heavy lifting sessions a week followed by swim/sauna and PT comes once a week and destroys me with weighted cardio. Also try to fast for 24hr each week, never counted calories it’s too much effort |

"I run 5 days out of 7, shortest is 30 mins longest is 3.5 hours
Beast! Got into running during lockdown and ended up quite enjoying it. What kinda distances do you train for? "
Generally marathon distance, I was hoping to take a place at London as people often pull out due to injury but they changed the ability to do that this year |

I'm new to this fitness malarkey. I do 3 gym sessions a week, burning around 600 calories a time and ensuring I am more active every day.
My previous daily step count was around 500 (no that's not a typo).
For someone with a chronic health condition, when I've always been advised not to overdo things, it's taken a big mind shift to get to where I am now. 8 weeks in and I'm feeling so good!

it's more complex than this, because, whilst increased muscle mass increases your base metabolic rate (the baseline energy needs of your body) as you get fitter you need to work harder to burn more calories.
I will burn less calories doing 10k than some do doing 5k, because my muscles and system is trained and efficient at that kind of exercise.
I would certainly suggest throwing away scales and try to measure calorie intake and consumption.
For fat loss (notice no ref to weight) you need a calorie deficit, and you need to make your body burn energy reserves. |

If you’re using a watch to calculate how many your burning it will miles off!! Best off calculating your TDEE then being in a calorie deficit and any calories you burn are a bonus. |

I haven’t seen the info to back that up, generally as people become fitter, their ability to work hard outpaces their bodies ability to adapt. So while you might burn less calories than someone less fit in a 5k due to increased efficiently, you’ll run the 5k much faster, so your calories burners per minute will be much higher.
Kinda like how Olympic athletes, the most efficient in the world at their sports, still need to eat so much, because intensity always outpaces efficiency.
Increases in muscle mass are a better example. An increased in muscle mass will lead to a constantly raised BMR as muscle mass is an active tissue that requires energy to maintain unlike fat mass |

I mainly do yoga excercises only. Like 2-3 hours per week. The rest I tend to walk loads (pretty fast) but I hate cardio work like running etc
So I don’t know |

I do bootcamp/cardio 4 times a week for an hour a time, a PT session once a week for an hour and walking on top.
I burn around 2000-2500 cals a day and eating around 1200-1400 cals a day.
I can't loose weight even if my life depended on it. I have an underactive thyroid but am on medication.
It's really getting me down. |

Mostly do weights 5 times a week which lasts an hour but do a 10 min cardio warm-up before. I then go for a 2 hour walk on the 2 days I'm not at the gym.
Maybe I'm moderately active in the cardio sense |

I think I'm roughly on 2000 to try and slowly lose weight, I work 8 hours a day on my feet as well as cycle to and from work most days! But by no means fit, just trying to lose this extra weight from lockdown :P |

It’s a long article but probably the best one out there. Well worth the read and might give you some new ideas |

I lost 3 stone earlier this year by calorie counting and walking everywhere. Worked out that I needed to consume around 2300cals just to maintain my weight so I downed it to 1500-1600 a day. Not being as strict anymore but generally stay under 2000 daily and maintaining x |
