The right place

The 1984 movie was a bit odd. I definitely preferred the books. But I'm really looking forward to the new film.

Looks epic, glad it's spread over two films, it's way to much to cram into one.

The David Lynch film was ok but it was a mess.

Not too many people admit to liking the original; Personally I thought it was fantastic, but I'm in the minority.

Looking forward to seeing what they have done with the new one.

I'll be watching this!

I have a feeling it's going to be like Blade Runner 2049 though and be a flop with the mainstream audiences, but a massive hit with the fans.

I have read all the Dune series of books and wasn't overwhelmed by the original film. I haven't seen the 3 part tv adaptation but did see the Children of Dune years ago and can't remember if it was good or not! I think I still have it on DVD so may revisit

I love the book and really have high hopes for this. Jules Villeneuve is becoming *the* sci fi guy and has shown that he can handle the scope required for it.

The book is brilliant, as always so much is not in the film.

The original film is a classic, should it really be remade now.

Travelling

It is really good but at the same time mainstream may struggle with it.

There is (obviously) lots of words, phrases, names to get to know. For most it will be an extremely slow movie. Far too much world building to fit in to movie format as usual - but the movie does it well.

The cast is amazing, some of them a bit wasted (since it is only part one of course).

Would have been much better as a TV show like Game of Thrones was.

Overall as a fan of Dune it was great (but still plenty of fuel for Honest Trailers to use!)

Brian Herbert and his good friend co-wrote an amazing expansion on the original Dune series, the passion seeps into the reader. It really depends on the producer and director tbh as Frank Herbert was on hand for the first Dune film....

It would and has been transferred to a TV production which was enjoyable. I'm sure cgi will do a good job.. but in our minds eye nothing will measure up. Casting looks good to be fair and Kynes as a women?? Well I guess each producer or director feels they need to leave their watermark but does ruin the character.

I'm very very hopeful in that maybe this time when Muad'dib and the feydakin fight Sardukar they will try to show the varying fighting styles, as in a triangle of three for Sardukar...and not some stupid starwars esq lightsabre, Crysknife rubbish.

May thy knife chip and shatter!

I'm with you on this. I bought the new Dune on 3 x DVD, I didn't care for it. I also have the original Kyle MacLachlan version on VHS, vastly superior....

It's definitely worth a watch as Paul's reasons for walking into the desert to die are well incorporated into the mini series..and as for the ghola and Paul it is also well portrayed. Paul's children and the assassination attempt, through to the final episode is shown per Frank Herbert style of engrossing to watch and powerful repercussions to follow.

All in all even the bene gesserit "wierding way" is pretty cool.

couple, us we him her.

Went to see it today.

It's amazing and made for the big screen.

Cinematography is brilliant as is the score.

It's long, it's bleak and humourless, visually and literally very dark.

But it's for me one if not the best out and out Sci-Fi film I have seen.

Everything is on a grand scale.

It's quite a slow burner and if you have a short attention span and expecting non stop action best to give it a miss.

9/10

Marked down from a ten due to my per hate of dark films (visually) but I understand the reasoning behind it.

Finally went last night. Not disappointed other than it started with "part one". Great looking, great sounding and great cast. Just need to find something else to help relieve the boredom in these cold wintery nights until matrix 4 comes out and then the next part.

Amazingly the studio hasn't given part 2 the go ahead which will be the biggest travesty in film history and would result in a complete boycott of anything WB studies for me.

They did the same with IT, sat on it and waited to see how the numbers came in.

It's highly unlikely it won't get greenlit

I'm a big fan of David Lynch so it'll be no surprise that I liked his version, although I think it's his least good film.

I seem to remember Lynch's original screeplay would've made a 5 or 6 hour film but the studio/producer wanted a 2h 15m film and that's why it's not a great film.

I'm looking forward to the new one though. I've liked most of Denis Villeneuve work so far.

Won't say much about why though as don't want to spoil it for those who are fans & those waiting to see it.

Part 2 hasn't been given the green light yet although they hope to start sometime next year, so it's quite a wait if they do go ahead!

Yeh a lot of hype..

Still not seen it yet and not bothered. Getting the feel from various sources that it will be quite a let down! Visually-who cares it is the substance of plot and depth of characters. From those who've been honest and given high and lows the impression is one of , Visually it's great but quite disappointing in story and characters. A miss me thinks.
