It's absolutely insane and my understanding is less than 25 petrol stations were gonna be closed because of issues with delivery. There was no shortage of feel that there certainly will be now. I just saw a local news update that police had been called to a local petrol station because flights are breaking out! |

No but the public are predictable and easily manipulated. The media knew as soon as they suggested a shortage everyone would go out and panic buy. So i disagree they are entirely responsible, if tbey said nothing then we wouldn't have seen the results. You to also notes the media are very anti brexit so even in these threads are pointing the finger at the government and brexit. Even it has little to do with the government and more to do with tbe pandemic. But they are manipulateting public to their view.

BP tanker drivers were pulled of there rounds for a few days so they could be used to delivery food to supermarkets that BP own. Like people said the petrol is there. No need to rush out and buy. Saying that I must re stock up on toilet paper lol. |

to be fair, it's been widely known that EU citizens not being allowed to work in the UK had caused a shortage of 100,000 HGV drivers which was bound to affect tanker deliveries once the fuel stockpiles at refineries started to dwindle past a certain point. it's not like this has happened overnight. |

The government says there’s no shortage but there is a shortage of drivers so the end result - inability to fill your car with petrol - is the same. I’m not sure what ‘the system’ is that you refer to but you might like to consider if the system was working before, say 2 weeks ago, why isn’t it working now? ‘Working slower’ causes bottlenecks in the delivery of petrol and so leads to problems. It would have been better for the government to have said nothing and the media to have said nothing. I think those people buying petrol whom you describe as panic buyers might feel they suffered last time and don’t want to go through it again. They might desperately need personal transport.

I’m a hgv 1 driver and I am appalled at the news last night about fuel shortages etc due to shortage of hgv drivers , a lot of companies are suffering driver problems due favouring cheap European drivers over English drivers . English drivers have now found other employment with respectable companies or left the industry for more suitable employment . So the companies favouring European drivers can in my opinion sink with the rest of the shit |

It’s true that being part of the EU drove down (if I may use such a phrase) lorry driver wages but the shortage caused by people leaving through retirement and stopped due to Brexit have caused driver shortages as well. Clearly the haulage companies put profit over job satisfaction otherwise lots of younger drivers would be be clamouring to do the job at a reasonable wage. |

I'm not defending or agreeing with brexit.... Its happened. Its the job of business to work with what they have. 5 years ago they could have had a policy of recruiting drivers....but they didn't. That's their bad. They could have paid a decent attractive wage... But they didn't.. If a business can't plan its resources properly, that's no fault of anyone else.

Panic buying was predictable once the the media made an unnecessary headline out of a few BP forecourts closing. People are predictable even now predictable youll get the anti brexit and anti government smoke blowers on these threads.
Modern logistics work on a just in time basis. Goods are where they need to be when they need to be there, like troup movements. Very efficient and very cost effective, keeps food, fuel and goods prices down, throw a fecking big wrench in the works and it falls appart. Sainsburys near me has a queuing system in place with about a 10 minute wait. Most people seem to accept that it is what it is and there is no frayed tempers (yet).
A few have tried coming in from a different direction but the staff are having none of it, if one queues then you all queue.
Anyways i have managed to brim full my three cars.  |

I’m a community nurse and we’ve hit crisis point at my base because none of us can get petrol anywhere to do our visits.
One of my colleagues travelled to the next city and managed to get £10 of diesel this morning after queuing for an hour and a half.

"I’m a community nurse and we’ve hit crisis point at my base because none of us can get petrol anywhere to do our visits.
One of my colleagues travelled to the next city and managed to get £10 of diesel this morning after queuing for an hour and a half.

Service stations are restricting fuel to HGV and services vehicles only, sure Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda etc are giving priority to home deliveries |

There is another spin on this too...
The Government will be rubbing its hands quietly behind closed doors.
For every litre sold whether Diesel or Unleaded the Government gets 57.95 pence in fuel duty and then it gets the VAT at 20% on the cost of the whole litre.
So Northwest News earlier was reporting on a Greater Manchester garage which on a normal Friday would sell a total of 8,000 litres of fuel - yesterday they sold 24,000 litres of fuel. So just from 1 garage out of the 1000s in the UK the Government trippled their revenue thanks to the media created panic. So multiply that out over 1000s of garage forecourts and thats a nice windfall into Government coffers. |
