I can't help but fall for a sports movie, full of cliches. No matter how hardhearted we are, there is something deeply emotional about the cliches such as "winning the big game" or "the lovable underdog" because we identify with those tropes and vicariously celebrate that on the big screen.
These cliches are common to many celebrated sport films, and despite our familiarity with them, we still watch these movies because something within us just can't say no to the high of feeling good or having our hearts ripped out, even if we know exactly how it's going to happen...
So what are your favourite Sports movies? Do they include; The Lovable Underdogs, The Training Montage, The Hard-Edged Coach with a Soft Heart, The Inspirational Speech, The comeback, The Last-Second Victory? ...I bet they do!! |

Classics coming in thick and fast!
Of the many boxing themed movies, I'm gonna give my shout out to 'Gladiator'. I bet it's dated as fuck now (was very 90's), but ticked ALL the cliches! |

"TIN CUP hasn't the ending you expect but it fits the film! "
Ron Shelton had a brilliant run of sports films: Bull Durham, Cobb, Tin Cup, White Men Can't Jump. |

The guys are great but Rosie Perez really owns that film. Shame she's not had the roles her talent deserves. |

"Another great doc: When we Were Kings about the Rumble in the Jungle "
Good shout, documentaries avoid (mostly) the cliches, but are great all the same!
Some to look out for 'the dawn wall', 'free solo' (both rock climbing), 'dogtown and Z boys' (the birth of skateboarding), and 'Senna' (if you need telling ) |

Looking forward to seeing The Phantom Of The Open when it comes out in November. Story of a crane driver who clocked up the worst ever score at the Open, for banned, entered again in disguise under different names. The real story is hilarious so I hope the film does it justice |
