If every table had one person at it then they would have less covers than if each table had 2 or more diners. Trying to make the most of available capacity |

Nope, never had a problem with this…but then again Maccy’s D’s let anyone in, so I’m golden like their arches 
Seriously, just book a table for two, turn up and say you’re waiting for your guest to arrive, then tell the waiter that they can’t make it now and ask what the specials are today! Simples |

My interpretation is that you meant it as in if you're alone, you'll save yourself the trouble or expense of a restaurant and just make it at home or grab a quick bite instead. A restaurant is when you wish to socialise with someone.

That's the problem with many restaurants right there. A lot of the time you could do a better job at home yourself, unfortunately. |

So many places now charge singles extra (single person supplement). I'm a single lady who works shifts so sometimes when I'm off work my friends aren't so I will go to the cinema or theatre alone or eat alone and hate people who make me feel like it's weird |

Not at all there are loads of reasons why I’d choose to be alone, I enjoy my own company. I’d rather go to a restaurant than a takeaway. If I’d been out in town I’d usually dine in a restaurant before heading home it finishes off my day. |

I do when away for work or when holidaying alone. Mind you, I’m always just a walk in, would never book. Great for people watching, you see a lot of couples that have less interaction as a couple than I do on my own. |

I love eating alone, especially a brunch sit there enjoy good food, great coffee and people watch.

What a crass question. I worked in Hospitality management for over 40 years and for many restaurants, hotels and pubs, people eating alone figured very highly, especially on weekdays.
Figure in people travelling on business, or breaking a journey en-route to see family. Widowed people, even just those, like myself, who are simply Single, through choice, and go out to eat alone. |

I've found this, and told the management it's abhorrent to charge singles extra. I'd let it slip that if they didn't think again, with my extensive knowledge of Hospitality Review Sites, I'd make it public about this policy.
In some cases, they immediately backed down, as they knew BAD publicity moves faster than GOOD publicity!
Where they resisted, I stayed calm, told them I was leaving and would leave a negative review on all relevant sites including Trip Advisor. |

Actually, SOME hotels have different rates for Single Rooms compared to those for 2 people. That would generally be within independent, privately owned hotels, like the ones I worked in my career.
The chain hotels do operate this, but in more subtle ways. |

I have not been out to a restaurant for nearly two years. Years ago , when working away . Yes places then, reluctant for single booking. Hoping now to find someone so can go out etc. Not fun eating on own . Out or at home. |

There are situations in life where not everybody can do everything. Some people seem to have lost sight of this these days and want everything their way. If foot-stomping doesn't work, they will complain bitterly and loudly and ruin it for others. See Insulate Britain for current details of how to ruin others' lives in the attempt to get their own way. |
