I find offense in very little.
I'm not sure all of us use the word in the same way.
Whether to take offense or not is my choice and the older I become , the less I take offense....
I leave the problem with the sad sack making the effort to offend.... |

Seems daft to me but i'd get a laugh out of it..... |

I find people who think they have a right not to be offended offensive. More tolerance is the way forward, but also accepting that just because someone doesn’t share your view it doesn’t necessarily make them a bad person. Likewise respectful debate of issues |

It's quite difficult to offend me personally. If someone insults me and what they say isn't true I usually laugh, if it is true it's not really an insult.
I get annoyed, I get angry sometimes on my own behalf and that of others.
The last time I remember being offended was a really ridiculous "clutches pearls" moment . It was about 15 years ago and a very young man, frustrated with the system shouted something like "you fucking lot couldn't run a piss up in a brewery" it was so out of context and out of character that I took a sharp intake of breath and my hand flew to my chest |

"I find racism offensive. I find people who have no manners and are rude for no reason offensive. "
I find the word 'rude' comical. I don't know why exactly. I think it's because it's a funny little word that someone uses to label those that have affronted their sensibilities. Rudeness is highly subjective....... Just because one person thinks they've been treated 'rudely' doesn't mean the person that they accuse is rude. I find matters of intangible nuance such as rudeness a source of amusement.
You find 'rude for no reason' offensive...... Does that mean if someone is 'rude' to you for a reason that it's okay ..... that's not offensive ? ( serious Q ) |

Nothing really, there’s more to life that being offended by something and nothing’s going to happen by being offended.
It’s not like, “Yesterday! I was offended! And this morning, I woke up with leprosy” chin up and move on |

I find the opposite is true of me. I seldom use the word stupid either. Not saying I actively make friends with them .. but I see their needs more clearly and with greater tolerance. ( I just give them a wide berth - I'm not a fookin angel ) |

Lol. I don't take offence easily and Mr N gets annoyed with me because of how much I will tolerate but I'm not going to tell other people they're wrong to get offended that would be a little ironic |

what does being offended do.to you?
Makes you feel a wee bit pissed off for a short time, and no one (mostly) else really gives a shit. |

I don't get the 'hygiene' thing that's been mentioned twice.
Surely lack of hygiene is not attractive and it's unpleasant but you cannot be offended by how seldom another person washes.... ?
I wouldn't go near someone with poor hygiene but it's not offensive...... it's REPULSIVE ...... |

I understand that part - we should all be nicer to one another.

True. You can seethe silently at the transgression committed against me- that's fine. Just don't intervene on my behalf unless I ask you. Is that ok? |

It’s another truism that people who think nobody should get offended by anything are usually people whose race, gender or social position protects them from the most frequent causes of serious offence.
When offences towards you are trivial, it’s easy to trivialise the idea of offence. |

I’ll use a different word for your sake, I find impolite people who feel the need to be nasty to others unprovoked, offensive, like when people are impolite to hospitality staff such as a waitress, or when people are rude to staff in a shop because they queue is taking too long or similar.
Yes if I was intentionally horrible to someone then they have a valid reason to be equally rude back, as I would if it were the other way around. |

I think what started out as a movement to de- stigmatise mental health (which is obviously a good thing) has gone too far the other way into shielding adults from ever having their feelings hurt. |

My bar is really high... I generally accept that other people don't know me, understand my values or principles.
So why would I give weight to their aspersions ?
You can't control what someone else says /thinks or how they react, but you can definitely control your own reactions and be accountable for what you say and do
If we all strove to be better people, looking in the mirror and applying the same standards we hold others to, to ourselves, I'm sure the vast majority of us would live in much greater harmony |

Thanks. I agree with both of your examples. I am not so much offended as I am uncomfortable with it and think of a way to challenge the 'cunt
I don't agree with the last part because you can perceive that I am being 'rude' but my intent may be far removed from that ....... Isn't it better to speak to me politely ? Rather than be rude back - intentionally which is a bit of a conundrum really for someone who finds rudeness distasteful. Why become that which you profess to dislike ?
( the you n me is not you n me ...... it's anyone ) |

I’m not a rude person but if I have established that someone has been unnecessarily rude to me, I will give them similar energy.
Like when an older male was unnecessarily hostile and rude to me because he thought I had parked in a Blue Badge spot for the fun of it and decided to tell me how people like me are disgusting and there’s plenty of “normal spaces” left why don’t I use that, not realising I was waiting for my Nan who had an appointment and my mom had gone in with her, I hadn’t put up the Blue Badge yet, but I was sure to get it out to show him.
I proceeded to be equally as rude back and told him next time he should mind his own business to save himself the embarrassment. I think the above is a valid reason. |
