World Gratitude Day 2021

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

The story of this day is quite fascinating, to me at least... back in 1965, at Thanksgiving Day dinner at United Nations building, the idea came up from a spiritual leader named Sri Chinmoy. His suggestion to celebrate across the world the day of thanks, was much welcomed and they all agreed and pledged to hold a celebration in their respective countries each year on 21st September.

How you celebrate is up to you. You can write what you are grateful for, you can help someone in need and pass on random kindness, you can simply reflect on the times you could be thankful for. Your call.

So... what are you going to show gratitude for today? Here or elsewhere?

As I get older (old, even) there are so many things. Good health, a job I love, strong family, a few great friends. When I think about these and count my blessings any angers and upsets fade into the background.

I'm not religious but I think gratitude is an intensely spiritual feeling.

I'd also never heard of this Day before now although I know a little about Sri Chimney. So grateful to you too OP, for the enlightenment!

I believe so too. There is that factor of it multiplying the goodness.. whether we accept or offer our gratitude.. its a good roll of the dice either way. Everyone should try it

My oldest daughter is a very anxious little girl and is always worried about natural disasters happening to us. I tell her that's it's really unlikely because we are lucky where we live. There are problems in this little island of ours, nowhere is perfect, however I am grateful that I don't live with the threat of war, famine or natural disaster hanging over my head.

I'm also grateful for my daughter's who teach me as much as I teach them

Finally, I'm grateful for fab and all the friends and entertainment it has brought xx

I’m grateful to all the people who have helped shape me to be the person I am today.

I’m also grateful for the people and events which shaped C’s life too.

When we got together we were a perfect fit for each other…both on the same path of discovery and both comfortable within ourselves, both open minded and relaxed. Both sharing the same vision…

I’m also incredibly grateful that I have a son who’s a joy to be around. Full of questions, warmth, worries (about ghosts) and love

I’m grateful for everything I have endured in life that helped formed who I am today and for everything that is to come that will continue to shape me.

Also grateful for my wonderful network of friends, family and colleagues who all give me support and love at the different situations and times I need it.

Well we are now? In a way. You can do something to celebrate.. I told 4 people in public about this today expressing my gratitude and also being showered with a beautiful gesture of kindness which came my way so unexpected.. I let the happy tears flow and made a bit of a "scene" but then they learnt why and were grateful to hear a positive story.

I'm grateful for so many things.

I'm grateful for friends like you and others from our little tribe who always lift me up and recognise me for who I am not who they would want me to be. I'm never made to feel like an inconvenience or too much. And I've been blessed by all others here, specially those dealing with my little black & yellow screenshots (Shhh!) over last few weeks.. supporting me during important change.

I'm grateful for small things. That sun blinding me today and letting me show my arms off and adding some freckles. That music popping on a playlist which just hits the right tones in my heart and let's me deal with some unspeakable hurt.

I'm grateful for those who selflessly reach out every day to others and make them feel they matter. Not just me. Anyone really. We need more people like you. We need a shift of this virtual insanity which allows people to be shit thanks to anonymity. I'm grateful I live in a place where there is no war, where I feel mostly safe and equal to anyone else.

You are such a brilliant role model for them my friend. No wonder they are amazing kids

And yes having seen things happening in Afghanistan for example and reading recently a book about Children Heroes to my kids.. I'm grateful for that peace of mind too.. and the fact their battles aren't about human rights for example. Not yet at least. But one day I hope they do stand up for the right things.

I have lots of gratitude for many things - a strong and steady relationship with my fiance where I can be me, warts and all. My body and the amazing things it's capable of. The good people who are in my life and make it better through their unique and amusing ways. My job that helped me buy my at the time dream home. I'm very lucky and aware and thankful for those things.

I read yesterday something and I'm sure you'd appreciate it too. Gratitude is the ultimate performance enhancing substance. if you can be thankful you can get even more out of life isn't it.

I do and I definitely agree with it. Being thankful definitely increases awareness which boosts motivation. I'll probably steal that at some point!

I do! I do need these little reminders to set me in a right direction. Otherwise I run a good chance of becoming bitter and hopeless. But we are all wired differently.

Remembering your last post about putting yourself first I'm particularly proud you jotted down that last paragraph.

All the best to you.

And thanks everyone who celebrated with me. Its a new day.. its a new dawn and I'm feeling good.

I'm soo greatful that soo many people I have never met or even talked to, know soo much about me who feel they have the right to judge me.

I have learned soo much about myself which I didn't know, greatful for all the expert analysis of my personality I have received in these forums. Just soo overwhelmed.

We all judge. Don't you? Based on what we see. So what you show you'll get judged on, no?
