OK, this has freaked me right out...
This morning I choose a random quote to put as a status, said quote came from Game of Thrones.
Tonight the telly is on, not much being watched so a random episode of GoT is left on ...and I shit you not, it's the very episode that the quote is uttered!
What coincidences have you experienced of late?... |

I took a shirt last week to a tailor and when I got home there was a leaflet that had come through for a new tailors that had opened down the road… thought it was quite a strange coincidence! |

I had a real yearning to listen to a few Nanci Griffiths albums recently, so I dug them out and was enjoying them and wondered if she had any new albums out, so I looked her up and she had died a few days before. |

I needed a new lamp I thought to myself one day, and came home from work and there was one on the doorstep. 
Neighbour is having a house sort out and I keep finding various odd items at my door. Does she harbour a handsome young man I wonder. *I need a nice young man, I think to myself..... |

Not necessarily a coincidence but every single day I see the numbers 11:11. Usually as the time on my phone, watch, car, tv. Whatever.
Done this since about the age of 12 and it’s freaky to the point I’ll be walking along and suddenly just pull my phone out and it happens to be 11:11.
The other day It was change on a till flashed up as 11:11. Emails is another common one. Pinging in at precisely 11:11.

I was once reading an Iain Banks novel on Kindle- I forget which one.
I came across a work I wasn't familiar with, and pressed on it. For those not familiar with the Kindle, this allows you to open up the dictionary defintion.
Which will also often open up an example of the word used in a literary work...

I had a Zoom interview for a place on a Masters degree course. The interviewer turned out to be one of my tutors from when I did my degree in a different subject at a different university 23 years ago!

Thinking and asking about people I hadn’t seen for decades for our path to cross randomly. The last one was weird as the guy I thought about was old when I last saw him about 13 years ago. But he stopped next to me in the park when I was with a group of friends, I looked up to see him, laughed then greeted him and he looked just the same. |

Not so much a coincidence of late but really freaks me out my families birthdays are cursed. My dad's is march 13th dunblane masacre , My brothers September 11th , 9/11, my cousin's July 7th London bombings my mam's may 5th when the sas stormed iranian embassy and mine April 3rd not so famous but in my home Hull a building collapsed killing 3 local men , it freaks me out x |

Here’s another, my mum does 3 numbers on the Irish lotto. You can win £200. She sticks some on for me and sibling too.
Mum saw sibling and they said we were ‘due a win’ and had a moan as we hadn’t won in ages.
Anyway I check the numbers later, there are 3 draws. Siblings numbers have come out, I check and mine have come out too. I ring mum and she tells me her numbers, they have come out as well.
Very very strange! |

Some great stories but most coincidences are actually explained by probability, even though it's often counter intuitive.
The best example is probably the Birthday Paradox: in a group of 23 people, the probability of a shared birthday exceeds 50%, while a group of 70 has a 99.9% chance of a shared birthday. This seems hard to believe as there are 365 days in the year but Google it for the maths. |
