Sildenafil (viagra) and the stigma
Jump to: Newest in thread
Due to having a heart issue and taking medication it does have the side effect of erectile dysfunction. Sadly found this out the hard way after meeting someone, heading back to hers and the moment was lost......yes rather embarrassing.
I went to be GP who prescribed me with Seldenafil which is pretty much viagra. I met up with an old FB and after taking it we were at it all night.
I'm saying this because there seems to be a stigma attached to men who take viagra, especially in the younger age groups but i'm told its actually quite common. If it helps then it must be a good thing.

I think there’s a personal stigma, but I’ve taken it, and not really noticed much difference.
Maybe it’s the placebo effect, maybe I didn’t need it after all, or maybe I just didn’t really fancy the woman? On one occasion it was definitely the copious amount of booze I’d ingested (sorry! But I told you I was pissed before you plied me with even more )
This comment isn’t much help, is it? |

Or the dose wasn't high enough. Also eating a meal prior to taking it can affect its effect etc. |

I should’ve explained better… I thought I needed some ‘assistance’, but later it turned out that maybe I just didn’t fancy the woman enough (when it came down to it), so no amount of Viagra - other products are available - would’ve saved the day.
The boozy night was my own daft mistake. I should’ve stopped boozing.
I’ve since discovered that I’ve no real problem, and blue pills (or even white ones) don’t make much difference if it works fine anyway. |

Just said it because I dont mind saying it. I've been taking it for about a month now, and its a massive help. Also gives that bit of a confidence boost.
Yes its rubbish for spontaneous sex as it needs an hour to kick in. |

Erectile dysfunction is one of those things talked about in whispers because it be seen as emasculating, embarrassing and lead to all manner of negative thoughts and comments by both the person with it and the people they engage with.
The best way forward is to be open about it, ensure partners know that your inability to perform isn’t “them” and seek out other methods for fun without letting it become its own monster.
Medications like viagra and cialis can help, and if they work for you more power to you. |

I take 100mg of Viagara when I need to be erect for penetrative sex. I feel now no stigma but pride that my cock can fill ladies pussies and their mouths with spunk, and even be a heavy cummer when I've dry wanked for a couple of days. |

It works by rasing your blood pressure, but you still need to be aroused to allow the blood flow into your penis, otherwise every man with high blood pressure would have a constant errection.
Alcohol also damages the effects. |

The problem is that men feel the pressure to perform. A lovely couple where the wife told me her husband took Viagara gave me the confidence to face up to my erectile dysfunction. As long as the lady turns me on, the blue pill allows me to fuck and be sucked to completion. |

OP, it's quite common for guys who go to clubs to take something first to help them battle stage-fright and keep them going longer.
I don't think there is really a stigma, not in the swinging world. |

I've experienced a partner who needed it and had it on prescription. The stigma is quite something on how it can affect a man when he needs to use it. I've witnessed the frustration, emotions and all else that comes with it all and it's horrible that the stigma is there.
I've also experienced a partner take it just for longer or more frequent sessions and there's nothing wrong with that either as long as it's done in moderation and obviously ok'd medically. But even then a man who can't go several times can lesser even without erectile dysfunction.
There's way to much pressure on men to perform. |

Sorry, but I’ve been told by my pharmacist that Viagra was actually developed originally as a blood pressure REDUCING drug.
It was subsequently found that it relaxed and enlarged the blood vessels and allowed erections. Hence it was found to be useful as an erectile dysfunction aid. |

In my case, I take Sildenafil due to Diabetes having its medical, ie, ED side effects.
However, I've found that people are really aware and understand why guys take it.
I find taking it about 90 minutes beforehand works for me and its good effects last through for over 12 hours. I've never encountered any side effects.

You guys taking sildenafil from your GPs should ask for Tadalafil instead if you're having any of the usual side effects. Smaller dose, but equally effective, I've found, and none of the headaches and heartburn I got from sildenafil. |

You need to be bloody careful with that stuff. I tried it once and thought that my number was up. Heart started racing, sweat pouring out of me, and I really thought that this was it, goodnight Irene! Never, ever again, from then on I've contented myself secure in the knowledge that I might not be as good as I once was, but as good once as I always was, seeing as it doesn't take me all night to do what I used to do all night. |

You are correct it is a nitric oxide inhibitor which means it causes blood vessels to dilate, this in turn increases blood flow to the affected area and reduces blood pressure. This also explains the common side effect of headaches.

After the breakdown of a long relationship I noticed I would lose some levels of erections when I would be putting on the condom after foreplay and oral. Tried viagra twice and whilst it worked fine, I couldn’t cum, just wouldn’t happen. The second time saw me last through around 6 rounds of sex across the night and in the morning. No matter how hard we went, how dirty the girl would be, I didn’t cum. She was so disappointed as we all do get a huge kick out of making our parts climax. Oh and I couldn’t pee for hours.

Viagra has never worked for me but on odd occasion when raising titanic seems more likely than getting hard in case of this emergency, break glass and grab a caviject, this stuff works in seconds and will cut through anything that was hindering your erection from too much alcohol to literally being impotent. Ironic that the dudes now with rock hard penis that stay hard for hour after hour are the impotent guys haThere's very little stigma these days and women are generally laid back if you need to mention it. Only had one person say that using caviject is 'cheating ' which did make me laugh.... |

Things only become stigmas when you let them.
Mental health, food banks, benefits, ED et al, all need adult attitudes to realising that hand ups are nothing to be ashamed of, but letting others opinions dictate your path in life is a shame.
There's dignity in doing the right thing for you, so if taking viagra or anything else helps go for it.

I cant believe I'm saying this but I've been a type 1 diabetic since Feb'89 and this hasn't been without its longterm side effects. I feel I'm coming out the closest here as only past meets have known but I've used Caverject at times ever since '97.
It does give erections of 1 or 2 hours and many male porn stars use it extensively for its obvious effects.
I've only come out about this so other guys who might read this and are effected can see they aren't alone and all is not lost... in fact the performance benefits are impressive. |

I bought some non prescription ones from boots, the Connect version I think they’re called? A low dose I’m sure. But I got a pack of 4 out of sheer curiosity. Used them twice, and not sure if it made any particular difference, but in no way ashamed to say I tried them. Admittedly I didn’t have any reason to, and the pack does state not to take unless you have actual dysfunction, so I figure they help guys get back to normal, but won’t give a normal erection super powers. Anyway, I’ve seen grown adults still ashamed to by condoms without burying them in the basket, time to normalise it and not have them as sniggering jokes for kids who thing they’re immortal |

When all else fails....break emergency glass and take out a caviject!!. Better to always have one laying about never use than really really need one and not have it.
You do of course have to wrap your head around injecting it into your penis but it's easy |

The stigma is your partner feeling “why can’t you get hard for me without it?”
It’s the stereotype that to be a man you need to be rock hard on command, you must always want sex and anything less than that means there’s a problem.
It’s a stereotype that needs to be broken down |

Over used them and generally they work well, however it’s getting the mindset that if it doesn’t work or you can’t quite rise to the occasion, there’s lots of other stuff you can do to pleasure your partner!
Trying not to brag… but I’ve learnt lots of stamina with my tongue, where the clitoris is and how to stimulate it properly, use toys, they’re fun not a substitute for an erection. Stimulate the g spot… whe will thank you for it!!
At the same time I’m always wary of ads on here that specify “must be able to perform” for crying out loud is recreational sex talk about applying pressure before you’ve even met!! |

Like all drugs, it'll work really well without side effects for some, others may have side effects, some it'll just do nothing.
My advice would be to start by taking the smallest dose 25mg then up it to 50mg or up to 100mg if needed. The lower the dose the less side effects.
As an older bloke, I find it works really well at clubs, you can keep going all night. The fact that it is a slightly chemically enhanced erection, can slow you coming, but that's good in a club/party situation too.
My experience is that there's no stigma and I know a lot of younger (30+) guys take it as a party drug.
You have to be aroused though, no good taking it and expecting an erection to appear out of the blue, it don't work like that.
Be careful where you buy it from though as there is fake stuff around which could be dangerous.

No it doesn't. This is the sort of dangerous rubbish that can kill people. It actually reduces your blood pressure and was invented as a treatment for high blood pressure.

- Sorry, too many spelling mistakes in my message so I deleted it.
Taking BP lowering medication and Viagra together can be a killer as your BP can drop so low everything stops. There's usually a question in the private prescription you have to fill in before you can buy prescription drugs, about other meds you may be taking - one of the reasons you should buy from a UK registered pharmacy business not a dodgy foreign cheapo supplier, of which there are unfortunately too many! |

If you have a medical reason for taking it then you be you!!!
Explaining why you take it may help…. But no need to go into medical history if it makes you feel uncomfortable … although telling someone you have a heart condition would not even be in the top 25 of things I’ve heard in a club |

I've seen that too, but the clux of the matter was that in people who don't suffer from E D but taje it for in want of a better phrase, vanity reasons, become addicted to the vanity and perceived advantage they think it gives them. They then develop degenerative issues in the psychological aspect in that what the emotional part of the brain fails to switch on the desire aspect of getting a natural erection and the chemical outcome of the drug used recreationally becomes less effective too.
These tablets do need medical advice supporting the reasons for taking them. |

Not quite… it is still a prescribed drug… if you are getting it online there are boxes you need to tick to say you have seen a doctor (that then protects the suppliers from any sort of liability just in case!)
If you are getting it in person you need to have a chat with a medical professional first…
