You can love pain but within lower limits. Nothing wrong with that. I am similar. I love impact play but I can not take spankings like other subs can. My limit is much lower. As long as you love it, you can still call yourself a masochist. |

"Have a low pain tolerance? Or am I just weird lol"
Yes definitely. I find my pain tolerance depends on the type of pain too. Some things I enjoy more than others. |

You're not weird. There's no set pain limit for masochists. Have you had much experience of different things? |

Spanking, belts, canes, biting among other things. I find that with the belt/cane I can take the first few hits no problem. Then the pain really sets in, especially if the same spot is hit repeatedly and I feel a bit weak for calling out in pain. I enjoy it, I just wish I had a better tolerance for it |

I would suggest that S/M is not a competitive sport, and as far as I know there are no S/M Olympics.
For many it is about doing what you enjoy and what you can handle.
That being said I know someone who wanted to take 100 strokes of the cane cold, and over a couple of years worked up to it. But it was not for enjoyment but personal challenge.
There are rope bottoms in the rope world that do really difficult and painful suspensions to challenge themselves, meeting the challenge and overcoming it gives them pleasure. The pain does not.
If you as part of your S/M is wanting to work up to the equivalent of running marathon that is fine, but if you are happy with the equivalent of a 20 minute jog around the park, it is still good.
For me it is about being authentic to oneself and not comparing yourself to something "you should be", unless that is something you actually want to be. |

I'm not sure this is the best site to get all the s/m advice. Because it's not primarily a site for those in that lifestyle. There are all sorts of things that affect pain tolerance. How aroused you are is a huge one. The person you're with and his response they are to you - could you ask them to vary where they strike you? It's a journey to find what works for you - don't compare yourself to others who are on a different journey. |

Pain is a strange thing and to overcome it is very much a mental challenge as much as physical . Im getting a few tattoos and tbh no idea how that compares to whips and spanking but during a 3 or 4 hour sitting it does become a bit sore and that's when I have to overcome the pain mentally and push on through it . Get to a point you think is your limit and really tell yourself I can do this . Take yourself away mentally to another place then you can really enjoy the sensation . If that doesn't work then maybe you have found your limit so enjoy up to that point . As others have said its finding the right DOM who you can trust 100% to gently push you a bit each time knowing he has nothing to prove other than giving you ultimately what you need |

Your pain tolerance and threshold does not determine if you are a masochist or not, its typically a case of if you enjoy or process pain in a different way.
You also have to appreciate that sadism is not just about inflicting pain, but in being creative with it. You may find you have different tolerances to different stimuli - some love thuddy but hate stingy, some like needles/staples but hate spankings etc.
I am often told by people I play with that they are disappointed in themselves that they cannot take the maximum I can put out, but I always tell them thats silly as its not about how much they can take thats important, but that they are willing to take it in the first place. You grow together and learn what people like. You don’t treat a session as if you are a lumberjack and them a tree that needs cutting down. |

Your reactions and willingness to please are more important. My view as an s-type and also what many d-types have told me. (Sorry to use terminology but these threads seem to be deleted) |
