Personal opinion here but I don't think leggings should be worn like trousers. My friend says it's body shaming. I won't deny that some asses look better than others but it's not like I'm saying she shouldn't wear leggings with a short top because I can see her knickers but it's fine on her mate. It's a general opinion |

That’s only a problem if you go for cheap leggings
They have they place ie strutting around the house or in a private setting if they black white knickers work the best
For public never go cheap alway expensive they are thicker and will not have that problem |

"A long top that covers the ass. A short dress. Sorry, I should have explained better"
The ones I buy never have that issue but I read reviews carefully. I know what look you mean. I'm sure I flashed my bra many times at people because of style of dress I chose sometimes. Not a big deal. Not your arse. Not your modesty. |

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon |
Not body shaming but really not cool anyway.
People should be free to wear what they want.
(Although if they're not dressed correctly for the cold weather in winter they should be shot because they'll make me feel cold) |

It reminds me.. last time I went out. I had strapless dress and no bra. It was nicely wired on top and secured. There was cleavage of course but I don't have big boobage. There was a woman who kept obsessing about it and coming up to me to pull my dress up several times
She was lucky I was in a brilliant mood and she was too tipsy to comprehend any preachy speech of mine |

I used to think like that when I wore them but gradually stopped caring when they are practical and comfy. It's a lot more freeing to not care what others think about how I dress now |

And as for leggings… if you wear them make sure they are decent enough to not look like tights IMHO "
What about Leggings with sheer panels? I think some can be sexy AF |

I had a shortish faux leather skirt that used to wear with leggings. I thought my mum would have (another) stroke it upset her so much. She referred to the skirt which was mid thigh at worst, as a belt and was quite annoyed despite me wearing what was essentially trousers with a skirt over. I'm still not quite sure what her objection was but I think it was because she thought my body was too old to wear an outfit like that. |

I only wear leggings with tops that are too long to be shirts but too short to be dresses.
Unless they're a specialty legging like leather look/vinyl/sports leggings as they're usually thicker.
At the end of the day they're just comfy ennit. |

"I think it's more when people wear really thin leggings and you can see their white undies sticking out"
I'm with you on this. Each to their own and all that but personally it's not a look I think looks good on anyone.
I make sure I buy good quality leggings that don't go really see through. |

Sporty leggings -no issue!
Fancy leggings -no issue!
Cotton comfy ones are fine but can really show alot if they're too thin, I'm not complaining but I've observed that a spot of sun could render them virtually transluscent.
It's not shaming in my view, but to point it out is being a friend, to make a point of it borders on making her uncomfortable. I'd say live and let live.

Unless you’re a fashion guru (and even then… ) No one should give a fuck. I wear my leggings how I want to wear them. Long shirt or crop top…what is it to other people?!
And I’m not sure if people should judge with lingerie straight outta the 90s.

Not a big fan of the leggings worn outside, yeh I realise they are comfy and hold everything in but when I see dog hairs and yogurt stains attached combined with a mohair jumper on a Saturday shop it kinda makes me think minimum effort.
A nice pair of heels and dress looks hell of alot better, where's Gok? |

"A long top that covers the ass. A short dress. Sorry, I should have explained better"
Exactly what I've had to do all my life because people don't want to see my huge bum, apparently. So yeah, body shaming.
How we dress is personal expression and a very sensitive topic for many. I'm very averse to any dresscodes and the notion of telling others what to wear unless they asked for advice. |

The flesh coloured ones that pull up between the bum cheeks make the wearers look naked from behind. If that is the look they are going for, fair enough, but please don't complain it it attracts the wrong kind of attention. |

What do you mean by "wrong kind of attention"? Are we back to victim shaming based on what people wear now? |

I wear leggings quite often because they are really comfortable and if I'm going to the shop for a few bits I'm not going changing out of them just because people don't like my big ass in them. If you don't like it don't look.

This thread seems a bit snobbish to me. I've gone to work in dresses with a massive kid snot running up the whole arm. So let's stop with only people who wear leggings look scruffy.
And my bra straps often show in my tops or the bra design can be seen from under my top (impossible to get decent moulded bras at my size). These are no different to any issues with leggings but nowhere near as often highlighted.
Let people wear whatever the heck they like. |

In its simplest form.
You can provide advice based on your personal experience in fashion & dressing, whoever you should not judge how another dresses.
Example.
I like to wear a thicker legging and invisible knickers to give that smooth bum look under a shorty dress. (Tick)
God girl, yer bums hinging oot yer knickers and those leggings are mare like fishnets. I can see fecking day light through these things..(Just no...!!)

That is exactly Hannah's View. I (Luke) don't have a problem with how they are worn generally. I've grown up around that and it's just normal in my eyes. Plus they do make women's bums, thighs and legs look delectable. |

Agreed. I rarely managed to hide my bra straps and I don't bother trying most of the time. They are just straps, I'm more concerned when my big arse starts devouring my knickers that's uncomfortable when they aren't supposed to be up there. |

Is it a blanket opinion? If so then, no not body shaming. If it applies to people of a certain body shape or over a certain size then yes it could be. |

I wouldn't say so if you feel like that about leggings on every woman. But if it's just a certain size that bugs you then yeah I'd say you're body shaming. But I don't get that vibe from reading your post. |

I wouldnt say its body shaming unless you are saying certain body types shouldn't wear them as trousers.
However I don't think it's any of your business to be honest what people choose to wear. If you don't want to wear them as trousers don't but you don't really get to say whether other people should or shouldn't. |

It is reasonable to point out that a friends leggings are see through, that their dress is tucked in the back of their knickers, that they've put their top on inside out - things they may not realise and could appreciate being made aware of.
It is also OK to have an opinion but always worth bearing in mind it is only an opinion and voicing it can cause hurt and upset others. There's that old adage, if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing.
I guess this needs to be tempered with understanding, my step daughter has body confidence issues and often uses filters to slim her face/body in photos and I'm happy to tease her/say they look nothing like her because this is balanced with compliments for her natural look - I am aware that by complimenting such pictures and not saying anything I would be reinforcing her belief that she is not good enough without these effects. I guess in your situation if you felt your friend was dressing in a certain way for a negative reason it may be OK to try to disuade her. If it's just what she's comfy in I'd be questioning if my comments were because I was more concerned about how others may judge her or possibly me for being seen with her, and if those concerns were more important to me than her feeling comfy.
