A very specific question and I'd like ladies to answer please as we wired differently in hormonal ways;-) and want experience based reviews.
What supplements do you take if any?
I came back from Boots the other day with a battery of stuff, but feeling overwhelmed with amount of things to swallow... (excuse the pun)
What helped you over time? I'd rather not take a multivitamin!

I'm rubbish at taking any kind of supplements - I buy them all with good intentions, then they sit around. I go in fits and starts with them.
Was there anything specifically you were looking to boost, Rose?

Morning C!
Mostly something for energy boost as I was very fatigued last few months. I'm already better thanks to other changes but I want to do sort of a wraparound care for myself and give it a kick from inside too if it makes sense ?
I got vit D, B complex, vit c with zinc and magnesium. |

"Have you seen vitamin gummies? They seem a bit nicer than swallowing tablets. Best is of course always natural sources, so for vitamin D it's sunshine, eggs & oily fish, for example."
Im trying! I can be a bad eater at times when I get caught up with life and thanks for the gummies tip. Between us.. I used to steal sometimes my kiddos vitamins. So much nicer. |

Also kudos for giving blood ! I always was on meds which stopped me or breastfeeding intensely or other excuses! I'll look into it again. |

I take a multi vitamin tablet and a vitamin C tab drink every morning. I don't really get poorly and my mental health is generally good. I doubt it's linked.
I started on the marina coil in January and had a roller coaster emotional 4 months and am still more emotional than I was before when I had none hormonal contraception. Slight tangent I realise. |

I was knocked off kilter from the mirena coil. I've asked to have it removed twice because of the bloating and emotional effects. Unfortunately there's not a great alternative.

Probiotics are important. Both for gut health, which then impacts brain health.
B-complex, which provides more than kjust B-12 (obv) but had lots of important vitamins, especially for women.
Evening primrose for hormone balance.
Glucosamine because I’m old.
Calcium magnesium, essential for everyone.
Vitamin D (also essential imo)
Just a few |

I take double supplements of iron, vit b complex, multi vit, calcium and vit d. I'm anaemic and if I'm low on iron I notice straight away my energy levels falling!
I also take mushroom complex powder in my morning coffee for brain function and to calm and focus my adhd brain |

I'm arranging to have my last one removed! I've had it for 16 years now and after a discussion about various health issues which I just put down to age, I now am wondering if its the coil? Same timescale but the coil has been amazing for me generally! |

Appreciate this asked for ladies input but I'm an holistic therapist and most of my clients are female.
Someone mentioned foods high in vitamins etc. This is a better option if you are able. The goodness is absorbed better, and it's all natural.
OP you mentioned stress. We all suffer to differing degrees. Complementary therapies may help. Most will relax and revitalise you at the very least. Yoga, meditation, massage, reiki. Anything like that. Or exercise. A walk in the sun. Choose your favourite - beach, forest, meadow. Embrace nature! Switch off from the "real" world of only for 30 mins.
These are things I advise my clients and their feedback is positive.

If your blood tests etc don't show deficiencies, then to be honest, you're just making expensive pee by taking multivitamins or Vit C etc. The Vit D will be useful but otherwise, if your bloods are fine, then you're getting what you need from your diet...... |

B12, vitamin D, and iron are three of the main culprits for fatigue! These are all in certain foods so potentially you can keep them topped up in food alone! However some people’s bodies do not absorb these, so supplements are needed to keep the balance up! B12 patches can work great and mean you don’t need to pop a pill or have injections! Miss pc |

I'm contemplating getting it removed. I don't love this emotional version of me very much. I've always avoided hormonal contraception but thought I'd give it a whirl in the hope of eliminating my periods. That hasn't happened anyway so there's no real plus... |

Your best bet is to ask your Dr for a blood test to see if you have any issues - may just simply be iron deficiency. |

I think at the moment getting to speak to a doctor is well nigh impossible and if you do they can't do non urgent blood tests because there are no containers for the blood. |

Vitamin D, magnesium and folate.
I've had two iron infusions in the past couple of months which have worked superbly. But I was taking iron before as I had low ferritin.
Magnesium is the one thing I notice a difference on when I'm taking it.
You can go ask the GP for a few blood tests to check for deficiencys and have a good look at what you need to take that way.
Sometimes I've taken a B vitamin complex too.
It's also worth researching the different types of supplements available as some are more easily absorbed and kinder on the digestive system.

People say you can get the right vitamins from your diet, but this isn’t necessarily so.
The food we eat is not grown in nutrient packed soil, it’s grown on overused and tired ground.
We get stressed and leach out things like magnesium, our bodies don’t absorb correctly, maybe we eat well, but take things that counteract the goodness (turmeric inhibiting iron absorption for example).
Maybe your blood levels show you have the other amount, but actually you run more efficiently on a higher level?
Try supplements and see how you feel, give it a good few months to see an effect too

Folic acid? Its a common deficiency that will lead to you feeling tired

If you feel you need to take supplements go and talk to a pharmacist or someone who knows. It is possible to overload your system with vitamins and other supplements you may not need! AND some of them can interact!!

"I'm rubbish at taking any kind of supplements - I buy them all with good intentions, then they sit around.

It's good you've recognised it.
I did get some high dose probiotics which seem to be helping my brain fog and energy levels

Folic acid? Its a common deficiency that will lead to you feeling tired
Tbh if you are worried about this stuff you should really be going to your GP and ask them to do blood tests instead of somewhere they just want to sell you stuff
Did both ! Thanks. Used to take folic acid pregnant and breastfeeding. But will look into it. Thank you "
Coolio, i didnt mean it as a dig sorry if it came over that way

I was prescribed it after feeling very fatigued alot of the time and feeling achey. Did a blood test and i was low in it. I tried to sort it with diet though, but i probably wasnt that successful. That was a few years ago. Recently a friend bought loads and gave me a box to try and i feel like i have more energy. I wish i had taken the doctors offer of tablets when they were first offered tbh especially as my diet is pretty poor.
If you have slightly high blood pressure L-Arginine is a good one for that |

"A very specific question and I'd like ladies to answer please as we wired differently in hormonal ways;-) and want experience based reviews.
What supplements do you take if any?
I came back from Boots the other day with a battery of stuff, but feeling overwhelmed with amount of things to swallow... (excuse the pun)
What helped you over time? I'd rather not take a multivitamin!
I take omega 3, vit B, C & D. Magnesium and collagen tablets.
My diet is pretty strict and low in calories so need to supplement at the moment.
How does collagen help you? "
Hey hun, collagen is a protein the body needs. It helps with keeping bones strong and can help with bone density. Keeps connective tissue like ligaments and tendons strong which is essential in keeping joints strong. Helps with skin especially as you get older.
You can get it through food but I chose to supplement. The only reason is that I'm a competitive bodybuilder on prep so my calories are very low.
I take all the others I mentioned but I take other stuff like creatine, cyclic dextrin, greens and melatonin etc but those are more for bodybuilding purposes not everyday stuff. |
