Well at least give it 10 minutes for people to respond ... they're probably still busy trying to get unstuck from the carpet at the door

I don’t mind them op. Some are crap. The one near me is nice though. Cheap and cheerful if you can’t be arsed to cook. And we like their breakfasts

I try & avoid wetherspoon pubs where possible.

I have a local pub here that is 250 years old & lots of history with smugglers & pirates.

Piracy was not a thing round here.

I wouldn't imagine it would be, with yourself being near a major Naval Base in Portsmouth.

I'm on the river thames, so it made sense for them to unload here to sell their goods in the city or raid ships sailing up from London. Used to raid dutch ships as well apparently.

Yeah I occasionally pop in..cheap and sometimes cheerful, mostly clean and get an OK breakfast for less than a fiver.

Not a huge fan of Tim Martin but I think there is defo a place for Wetherspoons, just like there is a place for McDonald's, though I rarely visit.

The wetherspoons in our local nice town has picked the bestest oldest building which is annoying because I like the building. I rarely go out though so its not a massive hardship not going in it.

"No. Can’t stand Tim Martin. Odious little man."

Agree with this.

They do a job in certain situations, but i'd rather go somewhere independent

Didn't they sack most of their staff around lockdown?

I don’t think you can judge all spoons the same tbh. For example nearest one to me is quite new, say 3 years old and is located in a rather affluent village, so not the same clientele as some of the more traditional city centre ones. I’ve been in some really bad spoons and some good ones.

Oh and I do generally prefer a historic independent pub, am a Camra member too, but sometimes going a spoons is good - mainly for the bank balance. Me and best friend where in one last Friday, £3.88 for 2 beers, so 7 rounds it was

Op are you part of their management. You seem to awfully keen to promote them.

I wouldn't frequent one after speaking to some employees and hearing their stories.

Cheap drinks, foods not bad and priced fairly, and it’s normally an easy place to pull on a night out

What more could you want

North Devon

Went during the week after running club with some mates. Sat outside in the sunshine, view over the river and four pints was just over £10.

Bizarre bit of the night was a slightly inebriated girl who came up and said "My boyfriend says that Jesus was betrayed by Judith, but I think he's just trying to confuse me. Is he right?"

Only in 'spoons
