Okay, odd one as I hate melodramatic posts, but I wonder, what do you do as a cope mechanism when you feel in the cusp of crying but can’t cry?
I feel like I’ve been a bit emotionally constipated the past few days and I am on the brink of crying and it’s almost there, but it’s not coming out. And I know thatd release a lot of tension that I’ve been building up
As a good cry is always good … any tips? Or suggestions x |

I find something that I know will make me cry. I'd rather get it out on my own terms than it be brought on by something out of my control especially as I hate crying in front of other people. |

If it's a cry that is needed, then a good trigger song etc works. For me it's Bright Eyes.
The other thing is to just sit with it. Allow yourself that almost cry feeling. That's what you need right now.
Finally, write it all down. Don't edit just write. |

Look at what triggered the emotion. If it's not clear, write down the time, what you were doing etc to try and establish a pattern. Rather than cry, is there anyone you can hug? Or talk to your bestie?
Emotional blockage isn't healthy, I've been there. I wish you all the best

I normally take a good healthy dosage of emotional, cathartic laxatives and that helps me take an emotional crap so I feel less crap.
That could be in the form of sad music (Damien Rice appeals to my pseudo tortured artist soul), a sad film that I know is guaranteed to get things moving along (The Notebook, Pan's Labyrinth - anything featuring children, death, complicated love stories). Or I read something that tugs like The Selfish Giant (I think that's the name, it's by Oscar Wilde!).
Or I go the other way and do things that will boost my endorphins - a 5k waddle, even meditating. Oh and yoga! My friend has seen me so many times just crying randomly in her studio and she knows I just need to let it out. I hope you have a satisfying emotional poo soon |

Find somewhere you can be comfortably loud like maybe in your car somewhere, put on a really powerful emotionally meaningful song at high volume and sing/scream along with it, it’s not the same as crying but has the same sort of emotional release |
