So, here we are, lucky to be in Iceland, maybe slightly less lucky to be at the tail end of Hurricane Larry 
The swing scene appears non existant (but wasn't really our intent here) but the tourist scene for bars and restaurants is thriving. What we're really looking for is a locals restaurant that does Icelandic food (no rotting shark thank). Any inspiration of that or anything else in Reykjavik?

It’s pretty much all fast food. Expensive to.
What is interesting is you have both American and European eateries. So give Taco Bell a try.
Blue Lagoon is a must.

There is a famous hot dog van in the middle that Clinton said was the best in the world - queues of tourists are epic.
Drink in happy hour otherwise its about £11 a pint - locals seem to go home after happy hour |

There used to be a bar crawl called Wake Up Reykjavik organised by a couple of local lads, who also do a food one as well. The bar crawl was really good and takes in the hot dog stand mentioned above! |

Where are you going to Reyjkavik I guess. My son lives in Akuyreyri in the north..
Do the golden circle tour, gulfoss and geysir.. and as mentioned earlier blue lagoon, but its very touristy and expensive now... don't expect any swinger scene though.. sorry.. I know iceland quite well.. have driven across most of it..
If going further afield, try fingvellir or jokulsarlon.. or in the north there is a cheaper version of the blue lagoon not far from Akuyreri |

Then just aim to do the golden circle, blue lagoon and a northern lights tour..
The church is quite worth a visit too,, Theres a couple of nice restaurants on the main street up the hill out of the twon centre.. if you like swimming try the outdoor geothermal pool at laugarderslaug and teh Kirnglan centre is always worth a visit too.. they should have their christmas decorations up too.. beware of the yule lads.. (elves.. lol) |

Depending on how long you're there, do the normal gulfoss geysir blue lagoon etc, but look up snaefellness, and if time permits go further north to patreksfjordur etc, theres some amazing waterfalls up there.. my son lived in Patreksfjordur for a couple of years so I know that area well.. theres a great public hotpot up there too, especially fun if it's been snowing, you will need your 4x4 there though and a bit more than a Jimmy.. lol |

Can I pick peoples brains about Iceland and testing.
For those that have been recently, who did you use to do your PCR or Antigen test prior to going to Iceland?
We have used Randox for the return to UK day 2 test just recently but would like confirmation that they are accepted by Iceland for their inbound test requirement.
Their website suggest it should be fine, I would just like some real life experience and recommendation.

In April you wont be able to get into the highlands until the snow clears more, but go up route 1 and try Vik, theres a penis museum there too which is quite funny..
Careful of eating year old buried shark though.. lol..
If you get further around try Akuyreyri.. lovely pool there too |

Thats part of what is known as the golden circle tour.. The blue Lagoon is out towards keflavik (airport) so you're looking at about 45 mins from reykjavik.. Gullfoss and geysir are just around the corner freom each other, if it wasn't so snowy then I'd also recommend pingvellir, where you can walk between 2 continents on the rift, but with the snow only a super jeep will get there and you wont see so much, but its not far from gullfoss..
There is a massive visitor centre there now and a car park the size of bolivia, when i first went there there was a wooden hurt and a dirt clearing to park..
Gullfoss and Geysir must be done though, if late in the evening after sunset you may even get to see the northern lights there.. it has to be cold and clear though |

Absolutely loved it there
The lava caves are amazing
Snowmobiling on the glacier amazing !!
Try to go on the smaller tours if you can the off road jeeps to see the northern lights were so good and you get vodka hot chocolate!!

Its the volcano that was erupting most of last year. The lava isnt flowing now but it's still a great hike and sight to see.

Yeah I was going to book the helicopter flight to see that, got loads of prices. Only one company told me the volcano stopped erupting in September |

Yeah the Rav4 will get you around route 1 ok, and the golden circle without problem, even up to skaefellsness, theres a really nice to snowmobile there.. It certainly won't take you into the highlands.. when you collect it make sure its got studded tyres.. Look it over thoroughly too as some rental places love to charge for stone chips.. and malbek endar (off road) is normal there.. |

To find what the locals eat, stay away from the touristy places. Icelandic’s like a bit of puffin on their plate. Try and get some local made bread. Because of the volcanos there, you can make bread, place it in a tin and bury it in the ashes of a volcano to cook. Gordon Ramsey did this but someone stole his bread  . |
