Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
It's an unfortunate clash with the Last Night of the Proms.
I am so pleased she took the time out she needed and felt able to come back stronger than ever. That old toad is claiming her success is based on his comments!
She's already won, as far as I'm concerned, but getting the trophy and prize money would be an amazing bonus. Her commercial opportunities are guaranteed now.

Although it is worth watching the dexterity and technique required to play the accordion |

"I’m watching 9/11
I’ll switch to lady night of the proms when it starts
Flip in to CH4 to see what the score is
I feel for Laylha Fernandez - the world world is now routing for @emmaradacanu! "

I know most of Britain will be routing for Emma, but the world..?
Unless you consider Britain to be the world.. |

Seems like most of the crowd in the stadium are supporting Fernández. |

That was amazing, not just because she turned the page with her foot.
This tennis malarky is exhausting. It's so close. |

They really are. I hope Raducanu can stay in the zone and not let the crowd response affect her.

"Why is Fernandez questioning a time out to stop blood flow?
"
Because she is a set down. A break down. And needs anything she can get to try and get back into the match. If she can force her opponent to play with an injury, it will only suit her. |

It wasn't very sporting. |

"What does this mean for her ranking now?
She'll got into the top 50 (I think), having been about 150th before??
I think she might get higher than that... she'll certainly be British number 1 "
I stand corrected. Apparently world no.32. And yes, British no.1 |

She was British #1 before hitting a ball tonight. I am just stunned. It isn't often you get to watch history happening! |

I think I read she'll move up to around #30. |

I just had a quick look at Twitter. I'm a little sad that the odious press person is trending a little higher than her because people are commenting on his previous tweets about her.
I was a little saddened to read the other thread too.
Billy Jean King presenting the trophy to a really skilled, articulate and poised young woman filled me with tears.

"Does she get a postbox in Bromley in her honour?
I am so glad this was on Channel 4."
Yes. I am so fecking glad that Amazon didn't be selfish and hog the broadcasting rights, and that Channel 4 had the balls to buy the free-to-air privilige. Should have been on the BBC, but I don't care. I got to see it and I am completely thrilled |

"She doesn't need a drink. She is d*unk already, on life!. Now ranked #23 in the world BTW.
Wow, dizzying heights!"
I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or supportive. But she just beat a player that had herself beaten 3x top 5 ranked (globally) players on the way to that match.
This is Emma's second only Grand Slam. Ever. And she had to qualify. And she won without dropping a single set. 10 matches. In three weeks. Premier League footballers cannot put that kind of physicality in before their managers start whining about over-working.
Being ranked #23 now is only because of the way rankings are scored. She was outside the top 300 when 2021 started. If we based it on performances in 2021 only? She would be top 3 at minimum. |

If you read my comments above, where I'd estimated she'd be no.32, you'll have your answer
I don't need a lecture on what an achievement she's made, thank you. |

Then I will take your comments as supportive and the rest of the post I made earlier was for the benefit of the people whom skim the thread to garner the facts they might need. Lots of people have shown interest and maybe they will find it helpful
This forum seriously lacks the emoji neccesary for handshakes, facepalms, etc etc |

I've just read she was 338th before Wimbledon.
I may not be asking the internet the right question as I can't find if she has risen faster than anyone else ever.
She also got an A* in Maths and an A in Economics in her A Levels.
Mark Steel's tweet is funny, though.

She has basically only played two top tier WTA events.. Wimbledon and this… basically she was due to play in a 2nd level tour event next week before all this started!!!!!
And to think she only got her a level results a few weeks ago! |
