Having just taken a stroll up to my local co-op supermarket to get some milk.
I was greeted by empty shelves where the fresh veg should be, empty fridges where the meat and dairy should be.
Is this the start of the feared food shortages as a result of the lack of hgv drivers |

So your just going to blamme the hgv then ?
What about the collection of the food at the farm processing before its set out.
Processing of the materials before storage into tins.
There loads of jobs where theres people involved.
Instead they blame driver shortages the industry they dont want to pay a decent wage too. |

There’s lots of reasons for the shortages. We’ve been gifted a good sized chest freezer so I’m going to start bulk cooking & freezing leftovers again. I tend to use frozen veg anyway as we all like different ones & rarely all eat together so more cost effective.

Can't force them though can you. Years ago I watched a documentary about migrant workers. Someone stood outside a job centre offering everyone that came out a job picking crops on a field. Very few took them up on the offer and a few even said 'give tye work to the Polish'.
Availability of jobs is not the only barrier to unemployment. |

Well the ones who want to and are capable will find work.

It's the fallout of brexit and covid and the big ship that got stuck in the suez canal. Also they are struggling to find staff. Where I live the hospitality industry are very short staffed and you are right about lack of food in supermarkets I noticed this a few weeks back. We're all doomed  |

Is it more about wages with minimum going up do people want to do some jobs.
We have relied on chap for in labour for to long and prices will go up to pay worker a living wage to do jobs that bothers don't want to do..

A lot of HGV drivers have jumped on to the local van delivery jobs instead, due to everyone online shopping, it opened up big job opportunity’s in that area, agency driver rates for HGV drivers are rocketing so you get what this means, knock on affect, so how most people thought it was great to online shop with it being cheaper this is now brining on the closure of the shopping centres so prices will now rocket for online shopping, along with everything else including your weekly food shop as they have to pay those increasing HGV wages somehow. |

Absolute tosh. A lot of polish drivers started to go back to Poland before brexit was a thing because wages there increased because of labour shortages. Why live and work in a foreign country with a high cost of living, when you can live in your home country earning similar money and have more of it left over at the end of the week because stuff isn't as expensive?
