A member I chatted to last night as they posted some worrying statuses expressed a lot of depression and suicidal ideation. However with only their user name and the fact they are local I don’t know how I can check on their safety?! Help? |

Just keep chatting, ask about day to day stuff, make them understand people care without making the chat all about their down moments.
It is all you can do. |

Something have often wondered about online as unless you are very good friends with them and have contact details off here, little that can be done.
As said sometimes just chatting and listening helps. |

Thanks all.
It was very much a chat about what are your favourite biscuits etc, I’ve been in a similar place myself and I know sometimes it can help just to be able to talk about anything at all!
I suppose one drawback to the anonymity of fab is that there is little one can do if you have genuine concerns about someone’s safety.
Fingers crossed they were having a low night and things feel better this morning, and that at least they know one person cared enough to reach out.
(Not virtue signalling, but I think if you are already feeling lonely, fab and other social media can be quite destructive) |

Good bloke!
I've been there, and it does help.
Hope they are well. |
