Women are no longer allowed to play cricket and according to reports, any sport in Afghanistan..
But apparently the Cricketing countries will only play men's international cricket against teams that also have a ladies team.
Not good. Let the ladies play cricket if they want to.. |

Very few women are still working or attending education.
Sadly, the gains made for women in the last few years have likely alk been lost. Whatever the Taliban say, it's actions that count. |

The cricket team didn't make the rule. Nor in fact did the Afghan cricket board. The current govt of Afghanistan made a rule that bans women. So it's the govt of Afghanistan (unelected) who made the rule that now impacts not only the female players, but also the male players. |

Of course it's a loss to men's cricket. The men who play international cricket for Afghanistan are also now being punished because the Taliban oppress women. Women's oppression doesn't just impact women. It impacts the whole society in which those women live.
I couldn't care less how good or bad the men's Afghan team are/were, it's the principle of the matter. |

Can you not grasp that the specifics of cricket are pretty much irrelevant here? The issue is that women are being oppressed by a male dominated dictatorship (the Taliban) and that women's oppression as a holistic issue is what the problem is here? |

They are probably now changing because the worlds reliance on oil is waning.
My point is this, countries take time to change.

Saudi Arabia were the originator of the ideology that the Taliban is based on. Über conservative Wahabbism. Saudi have exported this ideology to other countries, including Pakistan and Afghanistan, via the religious schools it supports, funds and staffs. Osama bin Laden was not an Afghan, but was Saudi, as were most of the 9/11 operatives. However, bin Laden was operating out of Afghanistan, because the Taliban sheltered him and his followers (shared ideology). |

I have grasped this completely thank you. You have not, however, grasped the meaning of my initial post. Many of the men on the Afghanistan team are also in the military. The same military who, after millions of pounds and dollars spent on training and equipment, threw it all down and ran like frightened little bunnies, leaving the women and children to fend for themselves. The men do not deserve to be playing games, the women deserve better men. |

I have not only a wider view of what is going on but a deeper understanding of what is going on as my focus is not narrowed to a 'game' and the plight of men in all of this.
It's a WORLD stage. What is happening will have global consequences. We will all be affected by it in a not too distant eventually. |

Of course it was the same. What matters is that it is changing in SA and other countries, where as Afghanistan is now heading backwards.
As for providing a female leader that is down to the voters, it is not like there aren’t any females in their senior ranks in the US, just like we’ve only had one female leader - although probably had bigger balls than any of her peers. |

Do you have any reference information to corroborate that the male players are/were also in the military? I cannot find anything that demonstrates this.
Separately, if you cannot understand why, in the circumstances in Afghanistan, you might give up the fight, then I don't think you grasp the issue.
The men evacuated from Afghanistan are, almost exclusively, former workers for the UK and coalition countries. In most cases, the wives and families of such workers were also eligible for evacuation.
Have you heard of the govt corruption in Afghanistan, which has eaten up a lot of the financial support actually intended for other uses? The Kabul govt. appeared to disappear overnight - why would a military force remain in situ if their leaders have escaped? They were paid an absolute pittance for working in the military or police and the whole system was riddled with corruption. At some point, presumably you decide to go for the preservation of your family (because the Taliban like to take aim at the FAMILIES of Afghan army and police services)?

Afghanistan is heading backward ? They haven't even got a government yet. There will be infighting before someone is in charge and control.
It took 267 years from parliament victory in the civil war before they passed a bill allowing woman to vote in the UK. But you expect Afghanistan to do it before they even have full control.
I think you will find we have also had 2 female leaders.

Why can't the ladies just enjoy themselves and play cricket...I have watched ladies Cricket and it can be just as exciting as the men.
Admittedly there is lots of giggling and cartwheels in the outfield but it is a lovely sport to watch .. The trouble with these Taliban types is that they are too sexist... |
