It's not that we had more Covid cases than the "soft Southern b@stards", we suffered because they couldn't follow the guidance and caused us Northerners to suffer lockdown!

I think it's more to do with the impact on the economy being greater in the North. Perhaps unsurprisingly the poorest areas felt the biggest impact. As so often, those already struggling will be hit far harder by financial difficulties than those who are in a more secure position.

Yeah, it's the same around our way to (South Wales). Hastings is perhaps not typical of the South East as a whole though.

Slightly different note, it's been many years since I was last there but you mentioning Hastings reminded me of happy childhood memories. The fishermen's huts and a little shop selling wooden toys and stuff

I'm not sure what is typical of the south east.

The end of Hastings where the fishermans huts are is still a tourist attraction along with the little train and the funicular railway

There is an old legend that in olden times, pedestrians, horse riders and carts would not ride over the spot where Harold fell. Harold definitely existed.

As to the roundabout story I couldn't say if it's true or not and I can never tell big you're serious or taking the Mick, hence I always pay you the respect of taking you seriously. What I will say is that the spot they previously believe he was killed on is quite some way from the place some now think it to be.

It’s this and other contributory factors including much longer lockdown periods, lack of services, higher demographic households. BUT the community attitude and feeling more than makes up for the lack of government assistance. And we have Andy Burnham!

I quite enjoyed it tbh! Listening to the commentary of the events of the battle as you walk around the place where 7000 men died, and our country changed forever afterwards, was sobering. Everyone knows ‘1066, the Battle of Hastings, Harold and the arrow in his eye’, but how many have actually been there, and how many actually know the battle wasn’t even at Hastings?

And this is the reason the north suffered more from covid?

Yes because they are more sociable! Theres a clue in the big word they spend more time together with others "

Where do you think Whitty and his crew got the idea about 'ventilation' from? Our windswept mountains of course! You lot don't have that down there on the Tube do you? Not that any of you speak to each other of course.........

"I will go on record and say it is the fable of the Battle of Hastings

Battle of Britain Yes.

Battle of Hastings Not Sure.

The fable of Hastings "

Again I have no idea if you're serious or not. If you are you must believe what you wish Tom

I like evidence...

We had a fable about King Kanute stopping the high tide..

What can we believe ..

He failed by the way if he ever existed and got wet feet..

The story of King Cnut is incorrect. He actually ordered the tide to stop to prove to his people that he wasn't all powerful.

And the King Arthur...who knows if he lived?.

All fables and legends..

Arthur, Harold and Kanute..

I have learned that not everything I was taught at school is correct..

Harold is a cash cow for Hastings..

The local economy needs him whether he existed or not.

And if this skirmish happened, and it's a big if, it was probably a diversion for the Vikings landing in Norfolk

In 200 years time there will be the Legend of Old Tom of Essex, shark hunter extraordinaire who questioned everything and turned the truth on its head.

"It's not that we had more Covid cases than the "soft Southern b@stards", we suffered because they couldn't follow the guidance and caused us Northerners to suffer lockdown!

(NB, said with typical Northern humour!!)
