Indeed.

Although we watched a very interesting show about triplets who had been separated and adopted. It turned out they were part of a scientific study . At least the participants in this show have agreed to take part

Most of the people I speak to about arranged marriages don't agree with them, don't want to be party to them, but have to accept it's "the norm" in the country they come from. I had a very interesting, but very sad chat with a young man last week

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I haven't read the thread - apologies for repeating anything.

I enjoyed the Australian version during lockdown but I really don't like the UK version doing it that way. I don't think it should be called Married at First Sight when they don't get married.

I liked the gentler UK version, where they actually got married and seemed to have been matched on more than just what would make it more like Love Island (I've never seen Love Island, but think it must be like this).

But, now that I have started I will watch today's episode later to see what happens on honeymoon.

Yeah he seems a bit shifty. Don't get me wrong I was totally on his side in the row with Alexis as I wouldn't accept my partner speaking to me like that either. But sometimes he slips out little comments that make me go "hmm...".

I think anyone watching needs to bear in mind that it's heavily edited to reflect what the program makers want to portray and the reality will be quite different.

Not yet, I found the earlier seasons fascinating and I think this time around the format is slightly different? Do they still use "science" to match people?

This is correct, when we see reactions and responses it's not necessarily to what has just been said. It's an entertainment show and hopefully they realise they'll be edited before they go on it.

It's not legally bining it's a "verbal commitment". I reckon if anyone wanted to get difficult there might be a legal argument to be had around verbal contracts etc.

Definitely. They're not just chosen for their benefit but the benefits to the TV production company. This includes some issues along the way.

Yeah she is obviously a very broken individual. I hope she gets help to be able to live a happy life, but I also understand now why her ex decided he didn't want to be with her anymore. She seems like someone you constantly have to be on eggshells around and that can't be a comfortable way to live...

The Australian version has these set pieces, Yes Week, a week in each home, a dinner with the families, and then a week apart before a recommitment ceremony. It's definitely a scenario set up, and the pairings have been made to create these jeopardy moments (a favourite for producers). How much the producers are suggesting behaviours, who knows?

I understand the set scenarios. I can't help feeling that Jordon is actually put there deliberately to cause trouble. If so it makes me feel very uncomfortable, at least two people have been publicly humiliated and hurt.

Why is he publicly admitting to kissing someone else then?

Reply privately (closed, thread got too big)

By (user no longer on site)  over a year ago

I might have an unpopular opinion here but I feel like Bob was milking it tonight.

Megan had been making it very clear to him that it wasn't working and why, and he was taking no steps to compromise on the behaviours he knew were putting her off, even saying he wouldn't change anything for her and would carry on being "himself" (which is all a massive act anyway). They've known each other for barely a week and haven't been intimate, haven't been kissing, have barely been touching. It really isn't as "vile" or dramatic as he's making it out IMHO. It would have been way different it was one of the other couples that are more loved-up.

Don't know why Alexis is bringing up girl code either when she was blatantly flirting with Ant at the dinner party. Nikita was meant to be her closest friend out of all of them but I didn't see that stopping her... She even told Ant that her and Jordon had agreed that if they connected with anyone else they could go for it. But obviously it's convenient for both her and Bob's images to act like the hurt spouses...

Having watched this so far and comparing it to previous versions I don't think that's possible any longer. The audience appetite seems to be for a certain type of person looks wise. I've only ever seen trailers for Love Island and Geordie Shore etc but the people seem to all have a similar look. To me it seems that image is the first consideration for the contestants (yes they really called them that ) and the relationship comes second to that.

I think I'm stuck in the past. They are little different from the other shots' people because they have been chosen to be similar. And so many of them have been on multiple shows. It cheapens it so much for me.

I think I'm stuck in the past too where this kind of thing is concerned. The obvious pursuit of media exposure by fairly standard members of the public isn't something I'm really used to. It's definitely a generational thing I think and the older generation rarely 100% understands the younger.

"I’m watching it only because I worked with Nikita and have to admit she’s worse in person than she is on the show, she’s a bully and loves drama around her at all times x

On the one hand, that's not really fair as she's not here to defend herself.

On the second, I don't find that too much of a stretch to believe

I know it’s not nice to talk about people when they aren’t there but honestly she’s worse in person and in her eyes any publicity is good, she’s been on a few shows now xx

Quite a lot of them have been on several shows before. I wish that they would just have decent, natural people who are only in it for the relationship.

"

Oh really... So its just a reality show for them... Not actually interested in being married. I have to say it comes across like that and was my takeaway when the characters were introduced

I watched her on the aftershow and there was zero recognition of her behaviour... Someone who gets a red mist like that definitely needs help /counselling

She's someone I'd avoid irl, she'd completely drain me

"I might have an unpopular opinion here but I feel like Bob was milking it tonight.

I'm with you on Bob.. Totally OTT reaction for someone who is sleeping on the sofa

He was able to control his anger though and rein it back in, so perhaps there is moee to him.. He's like the class clown at the mo and he'd drive me insane

Although I liked Big Brother and the Apprentice, I find the standards of the people to be quite disgusting on this show. Sure, there are some really decent people in there but the behaviour of some of them is repulsive. I've not watched all seasons but it's at risk of becoming trash TV.

I think it sailed right past risk last night. I'm not of the right generation for this I think, the biggest warning was when they referred to "contestants" .

She is chasing fame at any cost, as she has been on a few different shows.

And alcohol seems to be her fuel...

Some deeper insecurities under the brash and trash outputs.

I'm not sure it's much of an experiment - can't really see what groundbreaking conclusions they're going to come to at the end of the series.

It's just more cheap entertainment - not that there's anything wrong with that.

I'm seeing more of the guys as potentially great partners/husbands this year.

Are you expecting the gay guys to be going very well? I know that Dan wants his rural lifestyle and the other a city life but that's probably less of an issue, if they don't have personality flaws and behavioural problems, as so many of the others have shown so quickly.

I don't know. Things can seem so perfect at the start of any relationship. I suppose the test is if you can still be attracted to them once you've seen them at their worst

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I went on TwitTwat after last night's show to see what people were saying.

Franky is not going to be happy reading the comments, and they can't be good for his business.

Megan appeared to do worse on TwitTwat than Jordon; women behaving badly judged worse than men doing the same.

Lots of derogatory comments about Morag's looks giving her no right to be fussy about what lovely Bob wears.

Alexis and Ant have a whole fan base wanting them to be together and to rejoin the show (which is one of the things that happened on the Australian version).

The other fan base is for Adam and Tayah to really get married and have a baby (another echo from Australia).

Nikita, well, you can guess.

I am ashamed of myself, but I want to know what happens. I will resist in future as I preferred the old UK format with the registrar that registered my Mum's death.

You can read Twitter without an account, just Google #MAFSUK (and any 'contestant' name, if you want to see what is being said about them) and it will appear as if by magic on your computering device.

Not sure my comment on the insta post will go down well calling them fake hungry wanna be’s hahha where are the normal people who genuinely want love? There’s only 1 couple over 35.

Also that guy is it Jordan? Who snogged Megan oooffffffff I saw the post his gf of 11 year wrote ouch he wants to watch himself. Nice guy forgot he had a gf of 11 years when he went on the show to get married only remembered when it was due to be aired and told her he had been away due to a mental health breakdown.

I've just watched it. Those two rejoining it is so obviously a set up that it's laughable. I felt veeery uncomfortable watching Luke fulfilling Morag's request for a striptease, if a man had asked a woman to do that during yes week there would have been uproar. I know it's ok to ask a partner to fulfil a fantasy but I think it should be private

I'm not there yet, but that sounds like the formula.

In the Australian one, a man did ask his partner to dress up in a saucy maid outfit to do everything.
