I never have as washing it is known to spread bacteria and I thought everyone knew this but I was just having a debate with a friend who said it's unhygienic not to wash it, so what do you do with your meat? |

It would only be unhygienic if they planned on going raw with it |

I've never washed any meat prior to cooking it
To be honest I rarely wash anything that's going to be cooked
I will occasionally wash fruit or vegetables that I'm going to eat unpeeled but more often than not I forget. |

"Why would anyone do it? "
I didn't think anyone did but a friend asked this exact same question on Facebook and the number of people that have said they always wash chicken and couldn't believe people don't. |

I don't wash anything except freshly dug potatoes and carrots as the mud gets a bit chewy Tis a problem with a lot of things these days, we are not exposing our bodies to anything so are not building up any kind of immune system. |

What I do with my meat is another question.
But as everyone has suggested, you should wash as it can spread bacteria and unlikely will remove all of it. Putting it straight in a pan/wok/dish or whatever to cook will kill the bacteria when it gets to a certain temperature.
I did know someone many years ago who suggested using vinegar (I think) to wash it, but as bacteria is killed during the cook, it seemed an additional layer of pointless to the process. |

I wash inside & out 3 or 4 times.
The reason being I buy a frozen chuck & spend a couple of days thawing it off on a plate in the fridge. It accumulates alot of blood - so I wash it ...
I've never had food poisoning!
I Take out the sink bowl before hand.
I think people get food poisoning cause the will use say a jay cloth that they use for every day cleaning for all surfaces. I don't - I use kitchen towel & spray the sink & surfaces separately with a Dettol spray.
Perhaps people get "F.P" cos they do not cook it for long enough? Perhaps they eat the inner stuffing too? I make separate stuffing! |

When I was a student in the 70s I worked in a supermarket. The butcher used to wipe bacon down with vinegar that was past its best. It disguised the smell |

"The only meat I rinse is gammon.
Why??
It gets rid of excess salt."
My butcher told me to bring it to the boil and simmer for ten mins then discard the water to get rid of some of the salty flavour |

"No never have, I don’t even touch it with my hands"
Same here. It either comes nicely wrapped in cardboard and breadcrumbs from Birds Eye or in a roast in a bag format |

a long long long time ago, I worked for one of the major supermarket chains and knew of a guy who fucked a chicken out back in the warehouse section of the store ...yes, said chicken then ended up back in stock and onto the shelf to be bought!
Still doesn't mean you have to wash your chickens, that's just a story! |

I’m vegetarian so when I cook chicken for the kids, the packaging comes off and it literally gets lobbed straight onto a baking tray! The least amount of Interaction the better, Washing it would tip me over the edge hehe! Miss pc |

Haha. I have throw away gloves for recipes I need to touch it, like making kebabs. If I have to dice / slice it, scissors open the packaging then a fork gets stabbed in one end, hold it over the pan then snip away with scissors |

"I wash it, but I'm a novice so reading these replies make me think I shouldn't "
You shouldn't as it can spread any bacteria. Cooking it is enough to kill anything. |

this for sure, there is a reason so man people get allergies these days, we need to build up our defences, not reduce them, my mum used to catch me eating worms and soil in the garden as a toddler, its done me no harm, we are to obsessed about clean these days, our bodies need the bugs to learn what to fight.
i dont remember anyone having an allergy when i was a kid, now it seems everyone has one |

Washing chicken is dangerous!? What is wrong with people? No it's not.
I've washed chicken all my life and never given anyone food poisoning?
I reckon all these people saying they don't wash their chicken beforehand, don't wash their legs in the shower too |

If I never wash my cock, why would I wash a chicken?
Correction, and by way of reassurance to those of Fab I’m hoping to meet. I do actually wash my cock, every six months, whether it needs it or not. |

Ask someone who works in food hygiene. There is no need to wash chicken and when you do you are spreading raw chicken bacteria around your kitchen.
Cooking kills any germs so it's safer not to wash it. |
