Stop the press!!
OK this needs to be on the front page of every newspaper as I've just been having a discussion at work....
A workmate recons that online trolls can only ever be single lonely bored men online who can't get a girlfriend and I recon that surely can't be true.

Trolling or being manipulative on threads is connected to the personality and maybe background rather than anything else. Maybe the person was at the receiving end of bullying at some point and that has turned them into what they are today, who knows.
I do not think anybody was born a bully or troll, nor that it has anything to do with male/ female difference.  |

In my experience it's a combination of...
1) Guys who will wank off to anything/anyone, hence why they pose as females.
2) Teenagers who are bored and find trolling amusing
3) Scammers who are trying to extort money
4) Sad people who have self-esteem issues who find some sort of satisfaction in going online and just randomly abusing people
I despair for the human race sometimes. |

People troll when they're bored.
They feed off responses. Don't feed them.
If someone posts a topic that sounds very divisive or trollish, just don't reply.

Stereotyping single males as trolls is like saying all Islamic people are terrorists, completely wrong and an ignorant. Yes it’s true that there are some hurtful and childish people that make fun in hurting others, spreading lies and general trolling, but most people I feel are decent individuals, it’s the few that let down the rest of us. |

So do very many things and I guess it's only when you're the one who it applies to do you see the true meaning behind the words.
Would be nice if one of the old sayings was stood by more I think, if you have nothing nice to say then say nothing at all |

I am kind of thinking - the purpose of forums (any forum really) is to exchange information,ask questions, have discussions and a laugh and maybe more like form friendships.
This has probably never been more important during times like the pandemic as means to be in contact with people, right?
So, I am thinking that discussion, even debate is great (even rhymes!), learning something new is brilliant and even having a chuckle is fab and entertaining.
And I can choose where to post and where to pass. And it is highly unlikely I will agree with everybody on every topic.
Given that.... why be anything other than pleasant (or at the very least civil) to each other when we want to chat with one another? If the atmosphere is no fun why bother?
On that note, hope everybody is having a good sunny day and not too hot and bothered!  |

Anyone can be a troll, and there’s a good amount of both men and women who troll on here.
It’s horrible when you’re on the receiving end of it, but ultimately, you’ve got to feel sorry for them, it can’t be a nice way to live/be. |

Nope. I used to be an online community moderator and although most of the more aggressive trolls were men, they often seemed to do alright for female attention off the site. With women it tended to be more subtle online bullying of others who weren't accepted into their friendship clique. |

Troll on FAB is just another too freely used word to dis others.
Troll on FAB who ever they are is more often someone who disagrees with some someone elses opinions so therefore are troll.
