One book, one film, one album
Jump to: Newest in thread
Mercilessly trapped on a desert island, all alone, you fear that you will die from the lack of entertainment.
Out of boredom you dig around and to your amazement discover one book, a solar powered dvd player and a solar powered CD player.
Given the tropical climate on your island the dvd and CD players never run out of battery life, alas they only contain one DVD and one album.
Should it be you on this desert island, what book, album and dvd would you be delighted to find buried in the sand to keep you entertained until the end of your days? |

Book- And the ass saw the Angel by Nick Cave
DVD - G.O.T box set
Album- Now that's what I call Grunge (not sure if it exists but I like a lot of bands from that era/genre) |

Box set? You bloody cheat
In that case I'll have all the McDonagh films or maybe Star Wars. Dammit I can't decide on that either. |

Book
My book would be Ready Player One. Loved the audiobook and so much better than the film which was a major disappointment. Sahara is another that was a great book and ruined by thee film.
Album
The album was a tough one. I’m edging towards The Calling Camino Palmero due to the happy memories that it brings but it’s very close to Queen Wembley 86 live cause I feel so good singing along to that.
DVD
This was probably the toughest choice. I don’t repeat watch many films but I love The Family Man and Fools Gold. Both feel good movies but Fools Gold wins due to The golden beaches and blue water always make me feel relaxed. |

"Book - American Psycho
Film - American Psycho
Album - Fore! by Huey Lewis & the News
Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. "
It's a fair criticism but...
In '87, Huey released Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself. |

"Only got to choose one!
Book- Game of thrones novels
Film- Man on Fire
Album- J Cole Sideline Story"
That's certainly a lot of reading to get through! If you're trapped on the island you'll never know when the last book comes out though |

Enjoyed the film for RP1 but then I haven't read the book. Criminal I know.
I'd struggle to get past any Queen album too! |

Book - Shantaram or Dracula or Dorian Gray, depends on the way the wind is blowing.
Film - The Lost Boys or Withnail and I.
Album - Best of Ray Charles.
It's really difficult to narrow it down and by the time I've posted it I'll have different answers. |

I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. |

Feel free to keep playing!
OP the CD in particular was like Sophie's choice"
Ha ha. Wasn't supposed to be easy but hopefully not so damaging! |

"DVD - The Guard
Book - Utopia Avenue by David Mitchell
Album - Isles by Bicep
That was really difficult. Still changing my mind as I type.
Forgiveness required, I know none of these! I'm sure that says more about me.... "
Pah, we can't know everything.
The Guard is a wonderfully funny Irish film about a copper in a coastal town north of Galway. Brendan Gleeson plays the cop. I cannot recommend it highly enough unless you are of an extremely delicate disposition. It's a bit dark in places. It's very very funny too.
David Mitchell is the guy who wrote Cloud Atlas. Think 'Pullman for adults'. Utopia Avenue is his latest and is basically a sequel to The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet which ideally you read first.
Bicep I don't blame anyone for not knowing unless you like house music. Even then... |

Book. The Bible (I do like a comedy)
Film. I'm going to be cheeky and say the rocky series.
Album. George Carlin, class clown. (Although acdc back in black ran it close. And someone else mentioned Graceland which is another favourite.....and goodbye yellow brick road. I'd be happy with any of those) |
