Is 50 years over the hill?

Hi guys & girls,
My first posted topic in the lounge, be gentle...
I'll cut straight to it, personal choice or not, most folks seem to have an age cap at 50, do folks judge anything older as over the hill, unable to perform or just plainly unattractive?
Please begin.... |

I think there is space for everyone
I would say, however, that those in their 30's have the most options if we are judging purely on age
It is, of course, way more complex than that |

For us to arrange to meet, Mrs prefers someone a little older but closer to her age.
Things could be different if at a party for example.
As her age grows, so will her top and bottom limit.
She's willing to go much higher above her age than lower.

People like round numbers in my experience, but not all women, for example, set their age preference limits to round numbers. 50 and over is definitely not over the hill (says the 51 year old guy ). |

How do you see over 60s? Their reasoning is probably similar |

Not me.
I'm 62 and still enjoying everything the forum has to offer to the full.
For me it's not about age, it's about connection.
But there are those here who set their age preferences lower... that's their choice.
They miss out on lots of fun, but each to their own x |

When i was 30 i certainly used to think that way and my nanna +grandad were definitely old in their outlook at 50, but i think society as a whole is getting younger as we get older.. I'm 51 and think I'm in my prime now |

How very date you, Meli
No shame. "
I'll come and remind you of this when you hit the 5-0, Meli.

Ha! You will as you're female.
Maybe I should have refraised the initial question and included the word "male"..

There's several successful 50+ men. Maybe it's their approach and positivity that makes the difference. |

Don't get me wrong here, apart from being on fat side (but working hard on it) I still feel like I'm thirty.
I don't write cheques my body can't cash anymore though.
I do cycle everyday, listen to lots of music and still enjoy fast motorbikes very much.
I just see a presumption that fifty is too old for most, even those in their fifties themselves sometimes.
That I just don't get but again it's a personal preference. |

"Age is just a number it’s the person who counts and the personality !
"
This is very true, but if you're outside a setting (be it age, sex, etc.) on here, then no one finds out about your sparkling personality.
(Yes, yes, I know, get to socials/clubs. Sometimes easier said than done) |

Exactly that.
Given the choice of a fit guy in his 30's or a fit guy in his 50's, the latter wins every time |

You are almost dead mate. I'd find a quiet corner and sit out now.
On a serious note I was in a NW swinging club last night and despite being on the wrong side of 45, was one of the youngest there. I guess you may have a few years left |

It all depends what pool you're fishing in. If the question relates to the perception of those in their 20s and 30s then at 50+, you might well be considered past it and be automatically discounted by the application of age filters. That's not a judgement on you personally but just a broad trend.
If you're fishing in the middle-aged pool, many more options will be open to you. The only reason to suppose they'll be second best is if you prize much younger partners. As long as you can calibrate your expectations appropriately, it needn't be an issue that prevents you enjoying the site.
The ratio of men to women will do that job |

Is 50 0ver the hill..?
Nope...
Not as far as we're concerned.
Becky's discovered some magical youth spell and I still think I'm mid 20's in my head..
We look at how people attract us, not at their numbers.. |

"I think too many fall into the trap of letting things beyond their control get to them.
You can't change people's preferences but you can actively seek those who are interested in your age group. "
I think you're right there and yes it's got to me a little being honest.
I find and feel removed and apart from the scene because of my age.
I've been on Fabs since it first started back in the naughties.
Left for twelve months as I was working abroad, rejoined when I came back home and found it had pretty much changed beyond all recognition as far as folks' attitudes went. |

In my teens, twenties , even late thirties early forties I would have considered 50 or over too old for me.
I'm 66 and a half I am still sexually active but I don't expect anyone a decade younger than me to be in hot pursuit of someone of my age.
My 'current partner of 11 years ' is 50 ( and a half ) I don't think of him as either too young or too old. Suits us. |

We know we are still every bit as good or better as our younger selves but it’s really not about that. It’s really not about age = ability but more like age = reminder of parent/child/uncle/experiences so it very much a personal choice to be respected.
Remember, for some those thoughts are what makes it work for them too. |

Defo not as far as I’m concerned but I do have friends younger than me who look and act like old people, properly stuck in their ways and ready for the pipe and slippers combo |

"Is being old a bad thing (apart obviously from being nearer to death in most cases) in most people's opinion? I can't see much wrong with it myself
"
I'm loving my life at present. Probably the most happy and carefree I've been since my teens.
With the added bonus of financial security and a bit more wisdom in avoiding the most stupid decisions (though not all...) |

No, not in my opinion, more life experience usually means a better experience all round.
More funny stories and such too. |

I don't think it is a bad thing in the slightest. We seem to equate being younger with being desirable, attractive whatever (you can see it in the daft sayings about being younger then a person is), it's not. Be happy and content with your age - people of all ages face challenges and can be successful in meeting others, it's about a positive mentality. |

So many people claim not to look or act their age and a catch phrase loads of cosmetic companies use is "fight the signs of aging". How does one maintain the positive mentality? I do it by not giving a flying fruit bat |

Age is a number as long as your body Works what’s the problem other people may think differently the only thing that stops you from having fun at the people around you saying that been on for sometime can’t get verified is that page or just have a look |

We're both around that age and we're more active, more liberated and experimental than we've ever been before.
We show a top end preference of 50 as a guideline. I find the sweet spot to be 40-something, but as with everything, there are always exceptions.
