Mostly and kind of. Not a specific plan, but that things happen for a reason and that there are reasons people come into your life, for example. |

I believe in a thing called love
Just listen to the rhythm of my heart
There's a chance we could make it now
We'll be rocking 'til the sun goes down
I believe in a thing called love, hoo-ooh
But thats enough Darkness for today.
I just believe in being a decent person. I don't think karma exists, plenty of good people and plenty of bad people do well in life. But I want to sleep at night so I won't be a dick.
Religiously I believe in nothing. I think saying spiritual is a cop out (no offence meant to anyone there) but ultimately when we die we are done. Hopefully a few people will miss me and they will occasionally remember me and smile.
Thats about it

What a lovely topic/ thread - thank you, Bloomy!
So I do not follow a religion, do not believe in any deity but kind of see humanity in others and in a way that is my religion. Sounds more pompous than it actually is. I just think making our lives better with any little help... has to be a good religion.
Religion meaning... from the word itself... a binding to something, an obligation.
Do what you want others to do to you, dont do what you would not want to have done to you.
And maybe try a little more of the good stuff when you can. And I am really, no REALLY no saint. |

Over time. And probably as a coping mechanism I think.
Believing that the really bad stuff had to happen (although I'm foggy on the reasons) and that there must be good things ahead helped me when rock bottom turned out to just be the ground floor and there was a whole load of subterranean levels. |

Thank you. I'm not religious at all in any conventional sense but I do believe in a common good and shared interests which includes other species and the environment. A universal obligation, to borrow that appropriate word. |

I believe our lives, and the universe, are governed by chance. I don't believe there is a meaning to it. Humans just love looking for meaning. |

Ah, thanks for clarifying. I guess our attempt to impose meaning on chaos is the root of religious belief? |

I believe that not everything happens for a reason, sometimes it's just a shit time. That everyone we meet we are not destined to, we are just lucky or unfortunate. That you make your own luck and take your own chances. That the world can be a messy place but if you surround yourself with the right people, it can be the greatest place on Earth. I believe everyday can be a good day if you find the time to laugh at something.
And of course..
I believe in miracles, since you came along, you sexy thing you. |

I believe in the sentiments expressed in the song 'I Believe'. It doesn't actually mention a deity but does mention 'a prayer' and 'someone in the great somewhere'. Quite subtle. I choose to apply it to the human race, human nature and Mother Nature. But then I'm an optimist.
Tight harmonies as well by the way |

'I believe above the storm
The smallest breath will still be heard
I believe that someone in the great somewhere
Is everywhere
Every time I hear a new born baby cry
Or touch a leaf
Or see the sky
Then I know why I believe'
Great lyrics |

If I were to try and define my beliefs I would say I am a Pantheistic Buddhist, which would probably be closer to being a Hindu.
Basically, I practice meditation and spiritual philosophy, where my biggest influence would be Buddhism and a Course in Miracles, followed by Taoism and Hinduism. |

Personally, I think I was brought up by my parents to be respectful and think before acting or speaking ill towards others, I tend to keep to those rules, plus thinking before you say something does stop a lot of conflict and misunderstanding. |

A few, I believe in general you get out to the degree you put in - loyalty, generosity, patience, persistence, sacrifice, risk taking, hard work. And you should put back to degree you take, so if you do well , create a few jobs. Spirituality - tried most of them I like to stay grounded believing in things bigger and better than myself. Finances - always followed 80/10/10 principle and haven't ran out of money yet

When I self-publish my book I'll let you know
Any recommendations on books on Taoism? I've read a couple of translations of the Tao Te Ching as well as 'the Tao of Pooh' but I haven't come across too many that have been recommended.
Ultimately, I think all religions have the same ideas and practices at their core. Some have just managed to not get hijacked as much by political institutions.
The overlap between the 'Eastern' spiritual traditions is obvious, but there are a lot of similarities to be found in the writings of some Christian writers like Meister Eckhart. Some Christian Monks used to practice meditation similar to Buddhism. |

You don't have to be the smartest, most talented, or even able to do things the fastest. Life's not a race, take your time, work hard, back yourself. And eventually the cream will rise to the top.
However, although it's worked for me so far, I fear the day I no longer believe it... |

Some great replies. I read somewhere recently the numbers of times on average during our life we suffer a major devastating event like life changing illness/injury, unemployment , death of someone close, financial crisis, homelessness etc.
I’m extremely resilient and resourceful but no one is immune to suffering. I think a good test of your faith , belief whatever is how your character holds up during extreme suffering , the story of Job is a great lesson in this |

I believe that fundamentally we are all driven by love and wanting to feel a sense of belonging. Whether it be love of another, love of a God or love of something else, we all want to feel it and we want to feel accepted and welcomed by whoever that love is directed towards.
I also believe in the scientific method, as a way of exploring and understanding the universe. |

It is in my opinion. So many people seek what they need outside of their "self". I'm not sure it's there. I think that the words "God created man in his own image" should be the other way round |
