I’ve decided that I’m hanging up my body armour, my quick draw holster and retiring my baseball cap so I can stay in the UK

But I’m stuck in what I want to do, I’m tempted to go back to tee surgery, maybe even a job that travels.

Pick me a career to look into. I’m relatively new to job searching as I’ve only really ever been Military from 18 and that was…….. Christ a while ago lol

You'd be brilliant managing a large nature space, wildlife area, etc. Lots of variety, chance to use range of your skills, and you seem like a natural leader.

You seem very caring so why not look into working with under privileged teenagers or old people.

Yes, a mentoring role, especially for young men.

I’d love to help make peoples life more enriched and to be there like a big brother, x I might look into it as an option.

You must have so many transferable skills. I'm sure you could do loads of jobs. It is important to find something which interests you though.

It is very rewarding and with your life experiences I think you would be very good at working with teenagers who have gone off the rails.

Do it. I think kids (especially those who haven't excelled at academia) are low in self esteem ATM. They would take so much from seeing the success of "doing something" and getting shit done.

Yeah that’s my fear, bouncing between Carter’s till I find one. I love travel, I love face to face with people smile, I’m good at managing people and places.

This made me laugh! Have you considered your regional Ambulance service? A lot of ex military, like me, joined as you get a regime, structure, uniform, adrenaline highs AND lows, and still wondering if the boss has a fucking clue!! It’s worst job you’ll ever love!

If you wanted Scotland... have a look at Aigas I believe they're looking for a groundsman/ ranger. They do education and Highland breaks. Huge estate with woodland, hides and a Loch etc.

I was tempted but no chainsaw skills but exes sister used to work there and we went and stopped, stunning place and when no one about you can skinny dip in the Loch

How about looking up support services for former service members. I'm thinking particularly for those in need of mentoring and enabling, injury/ ptsd/mental health. They have programmes with involve outdoor skills and activities..

You could join a few agencies. That way you'd be matched to various jobs that suit your CV and skill set and could try different job.

If you want a complete change hospitality and care are desperate. Has anyone suggested HGV driver?

Tee surgery? You repair broken golf tees? Bit of a niche one, that, but golf memberships are on the increase so there’s bound that be demand.

So we know your career history and work skills so what things do you like outside of that and how could you adapt things you learned during your career into something that fits with your outside interests? I find making lists helpful for things like this. Then you can narrow it down to more specific jobs and locations.

Terra Firma

A big thing in corporate (where the money is) team work / building courses, especially since covid and a return to the office. Also the more outward bound the better, which seems to fit nicely into a Scottish landscape.
