Is it really true that the UK has or has ever had a special relationship with the USA I don't think the USA treat the UK any different than say Germany France Japan an American congressman once said the USA UK relationship is so special that only the UK are aware of it I agree

Well we used to own them and they bailed us out in WW2.

So we’re pretty close, yes.

Not really but the US was British for a while and still has much of our culture. Basically we are allied against the former communist eastern block and China with a common interest in oil.

Britain used to have a closer relationship than now. They should be closer to France as the French helped them win their war of independance and used to own areas of the south own eg New Orleans. They might be close to Germany for economic reasons. In general it's sadly the British who see a "special relationship".

The Soviet’s benefited from Lend-Lease and needed a second front opened (Normandy). They shed the most blood and material and killed the most Nazis by a wide margin.

Not sure they won anything as they soon imposed their own communist misery on themselves and Eastern Europe.

They didn't bail us out in WW2 but made an absolute fortune out of lend lease. They also had plans to invade Canada and take over all British territories and had a wonderful ambassador in London by the name of Kennedy who was pro nazi.

I dare say our ‘relationship’ with the USA is entirely cursory and nothing more

I saw a very interesting talk by Peter Hitchens saying that America sees us as useful and that we should be subservient to them. A lot of it is about how the UK defaulted on its war debts to the US.

They didn’t bail us out

They made billions from arms sales and only entered the war when Japan attacked them.

Similar with First World War

Individually nice people but foreign policy stinks

With a body like that to admire even Kim Jong-Un would want a special relationship!
