Does anyone actually really like smooth jazz or does it just make good background music?

My local has a Jazz night every Tuesday. There's a live band and later on other musicians can join in for a jam session.

You can take any form of music and be critical, e.g rock and metal are blues ripoff and can only be played loud and is still a mess. Folk, twee music for people that can deal with the issues of the day. New wave sad people with synthesisers.

As with all forms of music there are good tracks and bad tracks. I am a big jazz fan and I love smooth as I love straighahead jazz, bebop, or Soul Jazz. I have seen a number of the smooth artists live such as Brian Culbertson, Peter White, Peter Elliot, Bob James, and Earl Klugh and they are brilliant performers, who make brilliant music in a genre.

By the way elevator music is not such an insult when you consider such pioneers as Brian Eno. But then you will probably be critical of ambient music as well.
